Hi

You cannot at present ask for lookups for the 1911 census on Rootschat. You must search the census for yourself.

http://www.1911census.co.uk/

Hi

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Volunteers are transcribing the civil registration index

this tells you how far they have got

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/progress.shtml

Ancestry a subscription website has the civil registration index up to 2005

You can often access Ancestry through libraries or Ancestry offers a two week free trial

i hate to keep asking so many questions but.....

how accurate is the bmd record?  i found john henry rainsford.  the year looks about right (my grandmom said he died b4 she was born) but the age is about 10 years off.  unless my math is.  he was listed as 45 for the apr-june 1924 record but he was born in 1869.  if he was 45 as stated, he'd have been born in 1879.

also i found his wife, ann, listed in the jul-sept 1914 record but there was someone listed under her.  does that mean they're related?  the district is different though.

rainsford, ann  39 toxteth p. 8b 270
--john t.             o aston        6d 534

my 1st thought was that since john is listed as 0, that she & he died in childbirth.

(Though it iss a guide to wills in London the first two sections of this guide on wills on the Rootschat London and Middlesex board is relevant to all wills in England and Wales post 1858)

Toxteth Park registration district is in Liverpool. Aston registration is in Birmingham.

The mother's maiden name is included in the birth index from part way through 1911 onwards

Births Jun 1912
Rainsford  Catherine  Field  Toxteth P.  8b 342

Births Mar 1914
RAINSFORD  Arthur  Field  Toxteth P  8b 336
Deaths Mar 1914

On the Rootschat beginners board is a guide to civil registration and censuses. It won't answer every question but it might help.

it says that there's nothing online after 1858.  how did you see that he had a will?  please chalk this up to a lack of coffee & me searching from across the pond.  (do they still say that?)

Hi

I wrote the guide so I know it doesn't quite say that

'Ancestry has the England & Wales, NATIONAL PROBATE CALENDAR (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1861-1941 indexed online with some gaps for the years 1863, 1868, 1873, 1876, 1877, 1883, 1888, 1899-1903 and 1910-1911.'

The death registration would be consistent with the details of Ann taken from a free search of the 1911 census.
