Clement is in service in 1871

RG10/3209; Folio: 112; Page: 19 - Ullenhal, Wootton Wawen, Warks.
Barrells Hall

Occupied by Thos Newton - Barrister not in practice[/b]

Clement E Wager Servant 14  'Foot-Boy' Warks, Eatington

Thats interesting, Barrells Hall was my old family home, bought by my Great Great Great Grandfather (William Newton II) in 1861, when he moved from Whatley Hall (now demolished). The family had Barrells for 3 generations up to the mid 1920's.

Thos Newton you refer to above is T.H.G. Newton. He was known by his third name Goodwin (a family christian name) not Thomas. There is a wikipedia page on him I wrote www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwin_Newton

By all accounts they were excellent employers compared to other houses where staff were not always treated properly, being devout Christians this propbaly explains it. (2 of the 3 brothers were Canons)

Hope this helps, if you find out anymore re: Newtons or Barrells be delighted to hear it.

Kind Regards
Edward
