Quinnell and Charles
« on: Friday 14 January 05 00:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi,    I am researching a WILLIAM QUINNELL, reportedly born circa 1813 in Bristol.  No birth entry seems to be available.  However it is believed that his parents may have been GEORGE QUINNELL and HANNAH CHARLES who were married at St. Michaels, Bristol.

There do not appear to be any records of Quinnells or other Charles around Bristol.

HOWEVER, again! William was a convict to Australia in 1833, tried in GLAMORGAN.  There is a possible death of George Quinnell in 1841 at St. Mary's, Swansea together with a possible daughter of George, Eliza, who died in 1842.

I am checking a remarriage of Hannah at present and waiting on a certificate, as there does not seem to be an appropriate death under the name of Hannah Quinnell.

Sorry to be so longwinded, they have both been hard to locate, and I would be VERY appreciative of any information re the name of Quinnell or Charles.

Hi Marie,

I've just found this enquiry of yours.  As you probably found, Hannah remarried to my ancestor Thomas Watkins.
I have just received a copy of his will which refers to Hannah and her niece Elizabeth Eyles. (shown as Hiles in the 1851 census)
Although I had found the entry on the IGI giving the marriage of Hannah Charles and George Quinnell in Bristol I note that there is no source quoted for this, which is unusual as there is normally an extraction batch number or an "LDS member" entry quoted. I wonder how genuine it is.
I too cannot find any earlier trace of George or Hannah and wonder if you were able to get anywhere with them ?
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Mike

Welcome to Rootschat!  :)

Death of George Quinnell in 1841 (Sep Q)
Swansea 26 331
and
Marriage of Hannah Quinnell and Thomas Watkins in 1841 (Dec Q)
Swansea 26 660

If Hannah was George's wife rather than daughter (as 1841 doesn't give relationships), she remarried within 3 to 6 months after George's death.

However, Hannah was his wife as proved by the 1841 Will of George Quinnell, Swansea, Market Square, Swansea, Glamorgan, Cabinet maker/Upholsterer

Here's the link to the 1851 Will of Thomas Watkins

Kind regards
Morgan

Thanks, Morgan.

some interesting "fleshing out" there, even if they're not my direct rellies.

Interesting that the Batch number came up against George but not when I searched on Hannah

And thanks for the Wills, though I'm not sure where you got them, I just paid good money to the National Library for Thomas's     :'(
