Thanks Christine (again)  :D

The blanks are fast disappearing....atleast future generations won't have as much trouble as this with the advent of birth control...15 children  :o - what a woman!

Cheers...Samantha

P.S. Quick question - what is also interesting me about this family is that they seem to have been quite prominient in NZ but I haven't (so far) found anyone else who is researching them - do you think that's unusual??

There are researchers who are members of NZSG,
anyone can seach for names and  you will see there are definatire REDWOOD/GRIMSTONE researchers

http://www.genealogy.org.nz/Search_31.aspx enter the surnames, you will see details and even though not a member you could ask for contact details or pass on your name for referral

Hi JJ Girl

another one

Charles Edward Joseph   1878   #2399   Wairau

I have found Vernon Charles Redwood's birth details in the "Marlborough Express"
- On the April 14, 1874 at Riverlands the wife of Mr C Redwood of a son

this paper isn't searchable, but you might be able to find the balance of the children, if you search one day at a time - it will keep to busy - now if only Mary Redwood had read the newspaper over and over ...

Thanks heaps Christine

Hi Lucy - what do you think

Nelson Examiner
On the 24 September 1871 at Riverlands Marlborough the wife of Mr Charles Redwood of a son

when checked against the birth fiche for 1871 it looks like twins,

George Henry Redwood
and Eleanor Blanche Mary Redwood  1871   both with #620  Wairau

But why is the daughter not listed in the birth notice, could she had died, or is this a male thing, will have to check the death fiche.

Thanks heaps Christine

Hi Christine   :)

Great work !

Mmm ... yes, looks like a twin birth ... and I would suspect the wee daughter perhaps died shortly after birth  ??
Rather sad her seemingly brief existence, wasn't acknowledged ?    But, at least her birth was registered !

[I have a  case of twins in my family - mid 1870's - daughter who lived just 1 month - birth / death were registered.    Her twin brother doesn't appear in Birth index !   He died ( in the following year) aged 17 weeks, but only his death is recorded.
Thankfully I found their baptism records in the wonderful card index system at Christchurch Library.]

Hello JJ Girl

I went to the museum today and they have a folder of Redwood family info.  There was a photo of Charles Redwood and family taken in 1890 which they put onto a CD for me but when I got home there wasn't anything on the CD so will now have to wait they are open again (Thursday) to do anything about it.  The family were named on a separate piece of cardboard as follows:

Back Row:  George, Francis, Olive, Mrs Redwood, Mary (Mother Bernard of Sisters of Mercy), Mr Redwood, Vernon, Alphonso, Ciss
Front Row: Joseph, Leo, Bernadette, Charlotte, Constance, Charles

On another piece of paper there was a numbered list of his children but couldn't find birth dates for any of them in the folder.  There was no indication who had written the list.

1. Alphonso
2. Francis
3. Mary
4. George
5. Olive
6. Vernon
7. Joseph
8. Cis
9. Charles
10. Leo
*Jack Stephen Pessant (died)
11. Charlotte
12. Constance
13.  Bernadette
* Elizabeth (died)

*  These two names were listed as above but not numbered.

Hi Everyone....

Oh my goodness, I've been off working for a couple of days and haven't checked my computer....wow!!

Lu, Christine & Bronwen......thank you so much....I'm staggered that you have found all 15 children, I know my mother-in-law will be thrilled to learn so much about her grandmother's siblings and family...

Bronwen :) thank you so much for your trip to the museum (I wonder if I can convince my husband we should plan an NZ holiday immediately!! ::))  I can't believe you have found a photo of the family - that is so very precious...we only have a couple of grainy photos of Bernadette when she was very elderly...I would be incredibly grateful to see a photo of the whole clan - if you do go back to the museum that would be super, if it's too much to ask, I'll just have to convince the husband to book the flight!!

Thank you again everyone.....you've been amazing...

Cheers.......Samantha (JJ)

P.S. Bronwen, if you do go to the museum again, could you please let them know that their "contact us" section of their website isn't working (& they don't list an email address)....thanks...Sam
