Thank you for Mary Redwoods article re: her death in Queensland - it's all very interesting.

I don't have the actual marriage certificate - but think I will order it soon, so far have just done the search on the Queensland Historical BDM database and have found the following...

Reg #      1908/C2531   
Subject family Name: Redwood 
Subjects given names: Bernadette Josephine Mary 
Other party's name: Nathaniel

I'm confident that this is them....getting this certificate is probably the best way to go isn't it??

These look like two of the fifteen children.

Taken from Papers Past - Nelson Examiner
then matched with Birth Fiche for names

On the 2nd October 1866 at Blenheim, the wife of C Redwood Esq., of a son
- Alphonso Henry Grinstone Redwood  1866  #488  Wairau

On the 11th August 1868 at Riverlands Wairau, Mrs C Redwood of a son
-Francis William Redwood  1868  #545  Wairau

Thank you for that information, it has helped fill in some blanks....so far I have the following on the 15 children:

1. Alphonso Henry Grimstone b. 2 Oct 1866 I knew about him, but my DOB was out - so thanks!
2. Francis William Redwood b. 11 Aug 1868 I didn't know his name, so thank you!
3. Henry Redwood (no DOB - marriage notice in n'paper, he's the 3rd son, he married Josephine Eissenhardt)
4. Vernon Charles .b 14 Apr 1874 - he was the mayor of Toowoomba QLD
5. Charles Edward b. 1876 (approx)
6. Leo Septimus b. 1880 (approx)
7. Mystery sister she went to the UK from QLD to study Opera with Vernon Charles
8. Bernadette Josephine Mary b. 1886
9. Mystery sister who married a man called Maurice McGrath
10. Mystery Brother I have found reference to a male birth in 1871 - may be Henry or someone else
11.  Mystery

15.  Mystery

Of the 15 children, three had died by the time their mother Mary Elizabeth had died in Nov 1912 in Toowoomba Qld - not sure if any of them died in NZ as children.  I believe (guess really) that many of the family - not all the older ones came to Australia in 1893, Mary would have been 50 so probably not having any children over here!!!

Thank you so much for your kindness  , I've only been researching the family history since the beginning of the year (some work had been done previously on my side, but none on my husband's) - what I've been completely surprised by is the generosity of the geneology community - it's quite strange in this day and age to find people so willing to help a perfect stranger just for the sake of being helpful - it's restored my faith in human nature!!

I think you're right - the family is turning out to be very interesting - the Redwoods were a prominent bunch and just for some extra spice I have a couple of convicts on my side...exciting stuff!
