Looking for greenhalgh relatives.

Hi Angela, just to let you know that my wife and I visited Aunty Edna's home in Blackpool some years ago and she was married to Neil McCreary, I remember Uncle Neil taught me how to ride my first bicycle! As well as bake cakes etc, Auntie Edna loved to sing! Keith

Oh - This is wonderful news. For so long I have not been able to locate much information from the Greenhalgh side of the family. I do have quite a lot of information coming down from Eliza Hannah Greenhalgh (nee Pollitt)'s sister Elizabeth Ellen Pollitt who married Abraham Emerson a violinist in Manchester and Blackpool (also soldier) my Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather. These two sister's were the daughters of Thomas Pollitt (a butcher in Radcliffe) and Elizabeth Pollitt (nee Crook) a wonderful lady who always seemed to be there when the family needed help- bereavements etc. There is proberbly too much to go into here if you are interested in my sibling line, but there is also some info going back from your Eliza and Samual. It may be best to look for my tree (Angela's Family Tree' a public tree on Ancestry - just use Eliza Hannah Greenhalgh as a search) and perhaps I can guest you in or send my email through 'private message' if you would like to discuss this in more detail.

I know I have a mother and aunt still living who have fond memories of visits with the Greenhalgh side of the family in Radcliffe and would love to know more about the family - as after they moved south they very much lost touch with the Greenhalghs.   I must end know as about to be decended on by decorators - so may be a slight delay in getting back to you but very excited at this news. ttfn angela.

Hi Keith,
Thank you for getting back to me . I tried yesterday to send some information thru Private Message - wether due to my computer (giving a few problems lately - will replace after Christmas) or because of any limits on the reply field?  I had difficulty and sent the message in two parts. Think you did not get the 1st part    When I tried to send the message it said -already sent - but I do not think it did. 

Any way, I was giving you some more earlier generations and explaining that I will work out how to send you the part of my tree that may be of interest. I should be able to select that section and email it to you somehow. I will apply my husband to the problem.  We do this 'tree' stuff as a bit of a double-act  Hubby is the wizard on the technical stuff with the computer and I am good at the reasearch bit which Hubby does not have the patience for  - Anyway - hope to talk soon.  Take care, Angela.

I am just about to begin researching my family tree, my maiden name was Greenhalgh. My father was  one of the family you are searching for,  Keith who has already replied to you is my cousin. Keith's family sadly lost touch with the family some years ago. My father was called Wilfred Thomas Greenhalgh, born in July 1905, he married Joan Hoskison in December1941. Both my Mother and Father are now deceased.
My name is Gillian Mary, I have one Brother, John Richard and one sister, Judith Anne both living
I have very fond memories of my Grandmother and Christmases at her house where the whole family used to gather on Christmas day.
As far as I can remember Dad's family were Annie, Gertrude, Ethel, Elsie, Alice, Edna, Ronald and Harry. I think there may have been more, I will talk to my brother, he may remember.
I would be happy to send any further information if I can, perhaps we could email? I'm not sure how this works as this is the first time I have been on this site.

Hi Gill, This is great! It has been so long without any information from the Greenhalgh family line and now 2 contacts. Thank you so much for responding. I have checked-off your father's siblings on my tree and the only ones on my list not mentioned are:  Keith thinks there may have been a Bert and I have Samuel Herbert born 1904 (from the 1911 census completed by Eliza Hannah - your Grandma) Oh. ???Penny has just dropped! Samuel HERBERT! That must be the BERT Keith remembers. So there we go - one more sibling on your list.
I will send you a personal message with my email. I am sure there must be more to be discovered. I have quite a lot I can send you - not to take the fun out of research, but you may like to double check it all anyway.
If you have just started family research - you will love it. So much to be found and it is a joy to find all these people we never knew about. Your Great Grandma (Eliza Hannah's mum) was Elizabeth Pollitt nee Crook and an amazing lady - always there when needed! Your Great Grandad was another Samuel (Samuel Rothwell's Dad) and he was a publican at the Royal Oak on Water Street, Radcliffe. But you may know all this already. I was amazed when you said that your Mum may remember my Mum and myself. that is incredible.

Anyway I can now give you the final listing of the children of Eliza Hannah Greenhalgh, they are:

Edna May, married to Neil(had a bakers shop in Lord Street in Radcliffe)
Ethel, married to Harry Hill (Ethel would often go and help Edna with the baking at her shop)
Alice Maria married to Wilfred Fensom
Gertrude (Gertie), married to Arthur
Elsie, late in life married Irvin
Annie married to Robert (Bob)
Harry
Ronald married to Lizzie
Harold married to Hilda
Wilfred Thomas married to Joan
Bert married to Liz
Christopher (died either in childbirth or at a very young age)

Thanks so much for your reply, I am not sure whether Keith will get to see this message too (me being a novice at this), but if he does, hi Keith, I can't remember when I last saw you, long time ago anyway.
Anyway Angela, I am off to America on Monday, won't be back until 19 Jan. I have a daughter living there and am going to spend Christmas with her, her husband and my grandson aged 3. Very exciting!!

I would love to see the information you have, I propose to start my research when I come back from America.
