Hi Kate
It is quite difficult to find you way around first off ;D

Not sure if you have had a chance to read through it yet, but in Beginners there is a piece that says
'Beginners Links'  click on that and there are loads of useful links and if I remember rightly BMD (Births Deaths and Marriages) is the first one.

Have a good read and then if you have any questions pop back here and we will advise. ;)

Hi Kate

Never a problem ask away - give it a few months and you will be advising people ;D

I always find it good to have a read of all the links you can find; quite often come across a useful site, which I can then bookmark for future use.

It is a real voyage of discovery on here and will all have to set sail from somewhere ;D

Catch you on the threads

Hi Kate

National Burial Index is on Findmypast.com which is a subscription or pay to view site.

Hi Kate - it depends a lot on where you want the records for too.   There are various local websites eg Manchester have a really good one for their municipal cemeteries.  And then there are also various CDs with Memorial Inscription Transcripts or Parish Records on them... in addition to the National Burial Index (which I have to say I have had very little success with as none of the people I want are ever listed!).   A post asking about a specific area should elicit some helpful response from a lovely rootschatter

McBride (Monaghan, Manchester), Derbyshire (Bollington,Cheshire), Knight (Newcastle,Staffs), Smith (Chorley, Lancs & Ireland), Tipladay (Manchester & Yorkshire) ,Steadman (Madeley,Shropshire), Steele (Manchester,Glasgow), Parkinson (Wigan, Lancashire), Lovatt, Cornes & Turner (Staffs) Stott (Oldham, Lancs). All ended up Ardwick, Manchester

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to look up and post information from National Burial Index, I had a posting of mine deleted because of this.  Can't remember the wording now, but it was something to do with the licence.  I'm sure a Mod will re-quote the appropriate words.

I was thinking more that some local person might  know if there were any local CDs or oher reference sources other than NBI they could recommend - although I didn't know there was a non posting of NBI info issue.  Makes sense -of course.  :) :)
