Just found this though....looks much more interesting.....

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~mgfhs/dawnuvw.htm

I visited the home page so looks reliable.

Joshua George Underdown's death certificate (1861) is listed......

A very cheap transcription available, Deirdre! I'd go for that!

......dee

dee That could be the best $1 I could spend this year.  Thank you mate.

Yes found that during my searches and thought...oh dear. Didn't spend much time on it - just went to WA BDM's.

I actually emailed the author of the site and notified him of the incorrect date of birth of Henry Emanuel.  The son is buried in Karrakatta....

Reply  can't recall

Cando I had that with one branch of my tree also there were a couple of small and a couple of major errors with info and dates to do with the immediate family.  At first contact he was keen to be in touch then after I told him about the errors and gave him the correct info I never heard from him again and I have noticed he hasn't changed anything on his web page either.  Guess I did the wrong thing again...lol

Just passing through and thought I would let you know that I haven't found any further info on the family as yet.  Still looking at a couple of things.  Can anyone tell me by the way is there an old naval port in SA named St Johns back in 1845 please?

Thanks Dee
Looks like he jumped a naval ship in Canada then.
Suppose this means he came to Australia via Canada
Unless he was caught and transported............new line of investigation here...but he wouldn't be William Heard then so no - he must have come over from Canada under the alias I think.
