I'm sure a similar sort of thing happened in my family. GGG-Grandfather Deimel and his brother went to the goldfields in Victoria in 1853......leaving my pregnant with twins GGG-Grandmother behind with 3 other young children. They never returned....and there are no deaths recorded.

Wonder what names they assumed?  ???  :o

Raylen, there should be a certificate as it is in the index...the Heard marriage that is......and it can be seen free if you are a member of SAGHS....which I am.....but I live over 100 kms from Adelaide, and don't drive.

......dee

dee,
What about the other marriage with no reference number?

Raylen...it is not in the Index.

Things from BISA are only to be taken as a guide....usually they are correct, but some of what is there is member submitted, and can be wrong.

It is an excellent starting point....but should always be double checked with the actual records.....

There are two Underdown marriages in the Queensland BDM...an Albert married in 1887 and a James in 1913. They were not born in Queensland....at least they are not recorded in the BDM. They were not born in W A either. I just thought we may have found a link.....  :-\

Added....not born in S A or NSW either....

Thers a James born in Melbourne in 1852 to a John and a Mary ....that doesn't give us any help.

No Albert though.....

Oh well....it was worth trying.

Here is the marriage details again -
HEARD William  28 years  Status S  Father's name unrecorded
MCBROOM Elizth 21 years  Bride's father name unrecorded
29 Aug 1852
at  Holy Trinity Church Adelaide
Ref  Ade 5/236

I think this registration would have been transcribed from the parish records of Holy Trinity Church.  I also understand that a number of early RC marriages are not in the indexes.

You are all probably aware that BISA was compiled [not a good choice of words] by SAGHS using shipping records, bdm's etc.  It could be possible to see the Elizabeth McBROOM name on the index/registration and transcribe the date of the marriage to BISA records without actually checking the name of the bridegroom....and after transcribing hundreds of names for UKBMD last year I can now understand how easy it is to make mistakes.

Evening meal time here.

Cheers
Cando

I am pretty sure the Parish Records of the Holy Trinity Church are held at the South Australian State Library in Adelaide.

When my cousin returns back from her overseas cruise, maybe I can have a day in the city and do some lookups......  :D

Just realised that we hadn't actually included these three births for Omega in what we had found.....

Thomas David UNDERDOWN born 1857 in DUNOLLY
Father = Robert & Mother = Elizabeth MCBROOM
Ref = 11946

Robert Charles Alexr UNDERDOWN born at SHURST in 1866
Father = Robert & Mother = Elizabeth Ann MCBROOM
Ref = 4796

Henry Emanuel UNDERDOWN born at STRA in 1875
Father: Robert & Mother = Elizabeth Ann MCBROOM
Ref = 5819

Just realised there is an awfully big gap between 1866 and 1875......   ???

And then there is this one that I don't think we've even mentioned anywhere.....

Charles Alex UNDERDOWN born in AMHERST in 1859
Father = Robert & Mother = Elizabeth Ann BROOM
Ref = 15227

Can't see a birth for the first Joshua George .....maybe he was Joshua George Charles Alex ?  ???
