Now  what  could be  found  here  to  confirm  or deny  is a  newspaper article perhaps an obituary for Elizabeth Underdown  died 1916.  An  article  may say  where  her children are from  if you  follow  what  I am  trying  to  say.

regards Jenn

Where would you look for those Jenn

I suppose it would depend on how curley the writing was how the name was transcribed so it could be interpreted as McBrown.???

I always preface death cert info with the usual - info only as good as the informant's knowledge.

Definitely stated  place of marriage California, America but I found an Elizabeth McBROWN aged 20 born in Armagh arriving on the ASCENDANT in 1851. [Mentioned in BISA]  Of course it may not be Elizabeth Ann McBROOM :-\
http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/1851Ascendant.htm

Elizabeth was buried at Bendigo on 24 August 1916.

The informant obviously didn't know of Robert's death in January 1916.  Informant was funeral director.

Cheers

Karrakatta Cemetery is in Perth WA

Robert James Charles Underwood has parents unknown on his inquest papers and this leads me to believe he had severed all ties with his monther in Victoria as it would appear that Bridelia didn't know their names.

So is Robert James Charles Underwood the only death not
registered as Underdown?
(She asks in total confusion  ::))

Perhaps as you say Deirdre this indicates a split in the family somewhere.

Here's something interesting
a couple of births  for Pittersen  in Victoria

 PITTERSEN
Harold Bendik PITTERSEN  BORN 1895 AT BRIGHTON reg no 1269
father  Bendik Pittersen mother  Hannah Eliza UNDERDOWN

Peter Stanley PITTERSEN born 1893 NewP reg no 6256
father Bendek Pittersen mother  Hannah UNDERWOOD

so  that  is  interesting  name changing there
