There are quite a lot of people on GRU who seem to have some of these Underdowns in their trees.

Must ask Deidre is she is a member, although I don't expect she is.

Found this while browsing -

Will pm the contact details to Deidre -

This family (at this stage) comes from the area near Honiton - particularly the villages of Northleigh and Southleigh. This is what we have so far: -
Thomas Underdowne bapt. 1635 m Johan Turner
Thomas Underdown bapt. 1674 m Grace Pennington
Thomas Underdown bapt. 1717 m Joan Cox
Benjamin Underdown bapt. 1762 m Elizabeth Bishop
Thomas Underdown bapt. 1791 m Ann Harding
Thomas Underdown bapt. 1821 m Rachel Harpur (came to Aust)
Robert John Underdown born 1867 m Elizabeth May Copeland
Robert John Underdown born 1891 m Mabel May Pollard

This is the Thomas UNDERDOWN mentioned in BISA which may be a brother of Robert UNDERDOWN [BISA mentions the same parents]

Cool  Cando, well spotted.

Sue......The story  on  Uncle Ly  was  very  interesting  as well as  the  revamping of  the Alice Cemetery.

So  as not to confuse anyone as  to  whom  Lycurgus Underdown was, he was  the son  of
EMANUEL UNDERDOWN and  MARY SQUIRE.

As  yet  we  haven’t  been  able  to  make a  connection  to  the  two  families  except  for Robert Underdown  naming one of  his  sons Henry Emanuel Underdown.

The story  on  Uncle Ly  was  very  interesting  as well as  the  revamping of  the Alice Cemetery.

I do  wonder  about  Elizabeth mcBrooms  first marriage and  perhaps only  marriage.

It is more than  like she did  marry  William Heard as is evidenced  by the indexs  and  then  the birth of Ann Eliza registered in both SA and Vic, when she marries it is as Herd  but on  her childrens birth details  her  name is  Underwood.

The Big Question  is  Did William Herd Die and the Elizabeth Herd nee McBroom  remarry.  No  mariage  found.  Did  she just  take up  with Robert Underdown and  live happily ever after.  Did William  Herd die  or  did he  become Robert Underdown.

Two  certificates  could  help  with  these  question.  the registration  in Victoria  of Aann Eliza Herd  and  the  registration  of  one of  the children born to Robert underdown and Elizabeth McBroom.  It  would  be  very  interesting  to see the details  for  the fathers?
The death  of Robert Underdown  should also  show  all  the children.

Dee and Cando

Does  the BISA  mention  who are  the parents of Emanuel Underdown?
