Just spent 2 hours travelling to and from a visit to my mother - great thinking time ;D  Now please don't shoot me down in flames.  I have a gut feeling that Robert UNDERDOWN [ship'scook] jumped ship - not showing on a passenger record in 1852 or so.  What if he used an alias to marry Elizabeth McBROOM and the alias was William HEARD.  I wonder what is shown as Wm's occupation on the birth cert in Vic....I don't think it would show on the SA one.  Now if you use an alias and state you did not marry in Australia, you would be hard to trace.  Perhaps I should start a new career as a 'fiction' writer. ;D ;D ;D

Any other thoughts from the team.

Cheers
cando

Jenn,

I was confused about this last night.
(Some would say I'm confused night AND day  ::) )
It seems the birth is registered in both Vic and SA

The birth in Vic states place of birth as Adelaide.  :-\

I had already wondered about the jumping ship part, Cando....but not all the other implications......

It's another possibility for sure......

Omega....don't forget that Robert did actually die in Victoria...recorded as Robert Nuderdown!  ;)  :D

I was wondering if this marriage
has any registration number in SA.
Would there be a certificate?

UNDERDOWN Robert
Parents = Thos and Ann nee HARDING
Baptised 10th August 1823 Southleigh Devon England
died 13th August 1886 Bendigo Victoria Robert NUDERDOWN aged 62 died at SANDHURST in 1886
married October 1852 in Adelaide SA to Elizabeth Ann nee McBROOM

Interesting that the William Heard /Elizabeth McBroom marriage is
the same year -  29/8/1852. Ref 5/236

I like your theory cando  ;D

Raylen, there should be a certificate as it is in the index...the Heard marriage that is......and it can be seen free if you are a member of SAGHS....which I am.....but I live over 100 kms from Adelaide, and don't drive.

I have it on my list to check when I happen to get there.....but have no idea when that will be....I only get to go when a friend offers me a ride.....
