Hi

I have just picked up your chat re. Gad Leather.  The Leather Family History Society has him as part of a family tree of Joseph Leather born c. 1787 and Martha Scott (published in Leather Family Trees 2003).  Gad was the third child of 6.  His older two brothers married and had children but Gad does not appear to have been married and died, as noted, in 1845.  We have little further information about his younger two brothers and sister - one not found in 1841 Census, the other two still at home with Joseph.

It is possible that Joseph is part of a family tree that goes back to the 1540s but this has not been confirmed.

If you are interested I can send you further information.  Google Leather Family History Society for more information about the society if you wish.

Hi there,

Just as well i checked my messages, normally i get sent an email if i have one but no emails for a while!
So sorry Davy boy! and thank you thats him.

As for what you have found Gilleath, thats great... that is my Leather family, i had no idea there was a family history society on them! lol
I seem to be missing one of the elder brothers to Gad. I have a Joseph b 1815. and four others, Andrew, Edward, George and Martha.
Please let me know more!

Hi Penninah

No, you have all the siblings - we show them as Joseph bap. 12 Feb 1815, Andrew born 1816 but baptised 1820 at the same time as Gad who was born 1819, then Edward - no birth date but baptised 1829 at the same time as George born c. 1823 and Martha born 1829 (they obviously believed in baptising a job lot!).

You have also been in contact today with my husband, Simon Leather, Chair of the LFHS, via his work email, re. Joseph Leather b. 1787 to Joseph and Martha (Moseley) Leather.  We have him as part of the tree that I mentioned in my previous email, which goes back to the 1540s, which several of our members have contributed to.  It's too complicated to explain by email!  We don't have these trees in an easy format to transmit - they were all done in Word some time ago and have been added to over the years.  You may have information that we don't or amendments to make as this is a very complicated tree!

Leather Family Trees is available via the LFHS in hard copy or on CD - I would have to check the cost for you if you are interested.

Best wishes.
