Alfred Magauran
« on: Sunday 23 March 08 16:41 GMT (UK) »
Alfred was born during the period April/May/June 1892.  His birth was registered in St Olave, Southwark, London.  He was the son of John Magauran, my great grandfather.  Alfred is the only person for whom I cannot find, so far, any trace of a marriage or death.  I am presently trawling through the BMD records for a second time, thus far without success.  I am searching for information about his life to see if he has any descendants whom would be related to me.

Hi Alllegs,

Thanks for your reply.  Yes, he's the fella.  I have tracked down all the others but no such luck with him.  It's no good using FreeBMD as they are not up to date.  I have to check all the M&D entries via Ancestry of by viewing the microfiche records at my local library.  I am also checking phonetic or near spellings.  I did check the New York passanger lists but no luck there.  As far as I can see nobody in my family were the emigrating type though you never can tell.  They (my great great grandfather and his wife) originally came from Ireland, around the mid 1800s I guess.  Their children were born in Bermondsy/Southwark.  I hope I don't have to wait 'till the release of the 1911 census to see if he was still around.

If you are not a subscriber, I can contact both people for you.

Hi Legs,

My great grandfather John was registered as being born in Bermondsy on 16/3/1860.  The Leitrim connection is interesting as his father, Charles and wife, Margaret came from Ireland (either Cavan or Leitrim as there are other Magaurans living in that part of Ireland) before 1853.  I have to persevere with checking the marriages & deaths after 1901 all over again.

Thanks for your efforts.   :)

Hi Lorraine,  Bernard / McGurn/McGauran/MaGauhran + more var.
I believe was born in Templeport area of Co.Cavan .

For whatever reason?  My G Grandmother Maria Mcgurn + var, used the surname
Gourlay - and not until her  death 1917 when my G G Father Michael (informant)
registered her Death, Gave her  Parents as Bernard McGurn + var & Mary Unknown.
From the Irish Family History site, I whittled down my G G/Mother to b abt 1857/1860.

Michael & Maria's 2nd son was named Bernard.

Lots of McGurns + var, in Cavan & Fermanagh, a few in Tyrone,Leitrim Rosscommon etc

www.familysearch.org  'Record Pilot Search'  threw up large numbers of McGurns + var.

Anne
