Hi Evaann

Welcome to Rootschat!  I know what you mean about Armagh Ancestry - I too have spent a small fortune on trying to find my Hughes in Armagh.  I have a Sarah Hughes - (born c. 1860) she was my Great Grandmother, also from Armagh - not sure what parish but possibly Markethill or Richill.  Hughes is such a common name in this county, but you have a head start knowing the names of all those siblings.  If she was born in c. 1896 you should be able to get the civil registration from the GRO - they will do a search for you (within five years I think)  if you can't get to them in Dublin.

Also, if you can wait a little while, the 1911 census for Armagh will be online (sometime this year) and will be fully searchable and free.

Good luck

HI LOVE YEAH I WENT IN TO THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES I FOUND A SARAH JOSEPHINE HUGHES ON THE 1911 CENSUS AND SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE LISTED HER MOTHER JUST HAD HER NAME AS JOSEPHINE AND I HAD A RECORD FROM THE ARMAGH ANCESTRY AS A SARAH JOSEPHINE. IT SEEMS PARENTS  CALLED THEIR CHILDREN BY THERE MIDDLE NAMES WHICH FOR US IS HARD TO TRACE ! AND THE CHURCH IN KEADY SENT ME A FAMILY LISTING HOWEVER THE DIDNT HAVE A THERESA LISTED WITH THE FAMILY AND THE BOYS NAMES WERE DIFFERENT. IT WERE CONFUSING YOU SEE SARAH WAS CATHOLIC BUT SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH A PROTESTANT BOY AND THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN TOGETHER (THEY COULDNT GET MARRIED BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERNT RELIGIONS) HOWEVER SADLY JAMES SMYTH HER PARTNER WENT OFF TO WAR AND DIED SO SHE REMARRIED IN 1918 TO A JAMES SHERIDAN BUT THE MARRIED IN TYNAN ARMAGH HER WAS CATHOLIC. ANY WAY SARAH DIED IN 1931 LEAVING 6 CHILDREN AND THE GIRLS WERE ALL PUT IN AN ORPHANGE AND THE BOYS SENT TO ENGLAND AND THE FAMILY NEVER FOUND OUT ANYTHING ABOUT SARAH.

Hi Evaann

What a sad story.  Not sure what exactly you are trying to find out though - are you trying to trace some of Sarah's children?  If you could be a little more specific I'm sure one of us here could try to point you in the right direction at least!  :)

Sounds as though the 1901 census might be more useful with a better chance of Sarah's siblings still at home.
Do you know the names of Sarah's parents?
Also, where did you get the information about Sarah's siblings? perhaps the church records are correct and someone was confused about all the names.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

yeah i have to go back into the national archives and search for the 1901 census. however i went into the national library and they were very rude to me and not helpful so i left with nothing and was very annoyed. i have no idea what sarah parents names were only what i found on the census form if its the right family her father was james hughes and mother rose ann mcgeough however on her marriage cert her fathers name is joseph?? so you can see how i am confused.
