Can anyone help with a description of what Grove Street in Glasgow (Milton? Cowcaddens?) looked like in 1875. I've tried trawling the web but have found nothing that really indicates the nature of the area at that time. Was the street in tenements, now demolished? Was there an orphanage or hospital there?
The address I am particularly interested in is 36 Grove Street - it is where the death of 17 year old Jane Irving is recorded, an orphan, of tuberculosis.
The certificate is witnessed by her uncle who was living in Kirkfieldbank, near Lanark, with whom she was living at the 1871 census.
Thanks!
