Hi Geoff.

I have Mary Ann's surname as Wellman, where did you find the name Singleton?

I'm descended from George and Mary, then Albert Hodder and Elizabeth Lucretia Lucas, then George W Hodder and Mary J Russell, then William Thomas Hodder and Lilian Clark, then William Henry Hodder and Ivy Jean Andrews, then Graham Anthony Hodder (b.1956) and Kendal Joyce Whitehurst (b.1958).

I was born in 1985 (Nicholas Graham Hodder).

What's your link? my distant cousin. :-)

I'm in England.

Hi Nick:  Oops! might not be cousins after all.  At first, I had George married to Mary Ann Wellman but the dates were not consistent with other family members.  You might like to look at another thread on RootsChat  "Chard Lookup - George Hodder" to see how things worked out.

My grandfather was Walter Henry Hodder (b.1879, Oswestry) married to Florence Caroline Kent 1900.  My father was Walter William Hodder (b.1900) married to Gladys Ada.

As you can see, that makes me just a little bit older than you are.

I still have to confirm some of my events and dates but the overall fit seems very good.

By the way, this might help...my father was an only child.  He had several uncles/aunts: Albert Llewellyn 1873; George W 1877; Lillian G 1884; Mabel L 1886; Charles Frederick 1888.  Do these match?

I enjoy this part of family history...sorting out the blanks.  Never can tell where it leads.

Lets keep trying.

Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

Yes, all of those aunts and uncles match my records. I have some extra ones too, including Clara Hodder b.c.1875.

I'm descended from George, Walter's brother. I have George's mother and father as Elisabeth Lucretia Lucas and Albert Hodder.

It's curious that we have different records for Albert's father. According to my records, the marriage between George and Mary A. Wellman fits the dates perfectly; I found them on the UK census registers. One of us is wrong, hehe.

I'll add you to my tree from the Walter H line. I didn't know his wife's name so that's a new branch for my tree!

Do you have a private email address that I could talk to you on? We could exchange data files etc.

Many thanks,

Nick Hodder

P.S.

I've looked at the George Hodder Chard thread and it looks okay to me. I can't find Singleton on there, where did that come from?

According to my records, George and Mary A. Wellman had 12 children. The first was born when Mary was abut 21, and the last one when she was about 48. Those dates are not impossible.

My records...

1. George Hodder was born About 1812 in Chard, Somerset and died on an unknown date. He married Mary A. Wellman. Mary A. was born About 1815 in Winsham, Somerset and died on an unknown date.

Hi Geoff
Just to muddy the waters, I too am looking for the death of an Albert Hodder - not the same person however.  I believe 'my' Hodder to be Albert Thomas Evans Hodder born Chard c.1841 and died probably in Derbyshire after 1891.  He was a cab driver then coachman.  Also married to an Elizabeth.  Children were Edward, Louisa, Albert, Frank, Lizzie, Emma and Arthur.  (My grandson is descended from Edward.  I shall now go and look at the Chard look-up that you mentioned.
Regards
Ann

Hi

If you can get access to the 1911 cenuses it may have the Albert Hodder who died 1912 Bradford with his history like his occupation

Blackburns MI's in Bradford library but charge for service also newspaper look ups
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
