Houses of Wexford;

Hayestown House, Piercestown
Townland; Hayestown Great.
Records show that in 1909 the property was sold by John Pearse and another, to Thomas Salmon who was at the time mamager of Pierce's Foundry, the Wexford engineering company. Thomas Salmon then sold the property in June 1929 to Matthew Cleary.

Hi,

Is it possible my GG Grandfather, who emigrated to Australia from Wexford, could have changed his surname from Rourke or O'Rourke to Roark once in Australia? Maybe it was a spelling error along the way. In doing surname searches, I have found Roark to be a rare one.

He is listed as John Plummer ROARK from Wexford  on my Great Grandfather's birth certificate. I calculated that he would have been born about 1835. He married Francis Emily BOLTON, believed to be from Ballyduff in County Kerry, in Wexford in either 1857 or 1861 (discrepancy in children's birth certificate details).

I am new to Irish searches. Where would be the best place to start?
Any help gratefully accepted.
Julie

My surname is Tully, and my family hails from Ballinasloe. We have a Maria Salmon in our tree. I have no other info for the Salmons, other than Maria Salmon born around 1843 I think? She married into the Tully family and can be found under that name living in Derrymullen, Ballinasloe, Galway in the 1911 census. Any info you have on Maria's parents or siblings would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Hi Everybody,

Thank you all for our replies.I am back on the boards after a long break from research and I hope I can be of some help to you all .My Salmon's hail from Kilclooney,Ballinasloe, but I have little information pre 1820 ,if anyone has any questions relating to the Salmon family of Kilclooney or would like to try and put our information together and hopefully fill in a few gaps please feel free to post here or send me a pm.I have an extensive Salmon family tree online on another genealogy site.

Regarding the O'Rourkes,I do not have any Daniel's in my O'Rourke family tree wich dates back to the late 1700's ,there were ,and still are Dunne and O'Rourke families in the parish of Whitechurchglynn,Wexford.I hope this is of some help.
