John W Wainwright
« on: Thursday 20 March 08 13:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have been trying to find information on the parents of John W Wainwright, born 1861 in Leeds, married to Mabel Johnson (born 1863).  They had 8 children, William S, Martha, Charles, Gertrude, Eliza, Lilian, Mabel and James.

I can't find any information on John apart from in the 1901 census.

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,

Do you have the marriage cert to check John William's father's name?

In 1891, the family are at RG12/3660 68 46 - John William is age 29 born Leeds.
This looks like a likely birth registration:
John William Wainwright
Sep 1861 Hunslet 9b 253

Good, Ricky!  :D

He's still with granddad in 1881

Hi

I haven't got a certificate unfortunately, I guess the easiest way would be to order one?!?

Thanks

Matt

Indeed - although if he was illegitimate (which is quite often the case with children staying at their grandparents') the cert might be useless - either it will have the father's name blank or it will show an imaginary father ...  :-\
