An Obit to Share
« on: Wednesday 19 March 08 23:30 GMT (UK) »
I just wanted to share this obituary. The woman had "25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a niece"

http://www.newzjunky.com/obits/0319hamblenobit.htm

I haven't been lucky enough to have someone like this in my family. My son had a friend over today who mentioned his great-grandmother, in her 90s, and I kept my mouth shut for the envy. I'm still working out who many of my great-great-grandparents' descendants are, but I suppose if you have this living link, you might tend to stay in touch.

How about this one?: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/15/national/main1895193.shtml

"Two of her children are still living and she also has 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 150 great-great-grandchildren, 220 great-great-great grandchildren and 75 great-great-great-great grandchildren"

My great grandmother died just over a year after I was born.  She was in a nursing home and I didn't meet her.

I think with large families though, it becomes more difficult to keep in touch with everyone (although I've never had one myself), but with a living link, I suppose you'd all (or most) meet up occasionally.

In my tree it's rare to see someone live long, let alone live long and have a large family.  I have very few cases of great grandparents.  My GGGG Grandmother could've been a GG Grandmother if she'd lived to 83, but she died sometime around when her G grandson was born (can't find her actual death - it's a bit of a mystery).

My GGGGG Grandfather died aged 81 leaving: 6? children (2 I haven't been able to trace, 1 I think had died by then), 42 grandchildren (+1 born after his death), 9 great-grandchildren.

Wow !!!!

Imagine living long enough to see 562 of your descendants.....amazing.

I am mid-fifyish and I have 4 and doubt there will be more.  Two children seemed more than enough at the time but I really wish now I had more....or that they had more.  ;D

My cousin was made a g.grandmother aged 59.  If that child and her descendants carry on the family tradition, it's possible my cousin could be a g.g.g.g.grandmother by the age of 113!

My mum was a g.grandmother.  Had our daughter produced children when she was in her twenties in the 1980s rather than 15 years later,  the chances are my mum would have been a g.g.grandmother before she died last year.  As it was her eldest g.grandchild was 17 when mum died and that was a child of one of our sons who is 5 years younger than his sister.

Hi all, I have been waiting for an opportunity to brag and this  seems like a good chance, last June I became a very proud Great Nana of Grace, and my dad and mother became very proud Great Great Grand parents.5 generations!,  BUT that is not all, when my eldest son was born 50 years ago, he was also a 5th generation, picture in the local paper and all, we did not want the publicity this time, so we just had private photos,I am not really bragging, but we all just dote on our Gracie, who  is a blessing to all of us, and its lovely to have a baby in the family again.nora T

My husband has a five generation picture when he was around 4 years old and his brother was an infant.  His great-great-grandmother was 99 years old at the time and died shortly thereafter.

My husband's grandmother is still living and thriving.  She will be 80 this year and is great-grandmother to 3 kids.  She gives me most of the family history information, and she's usually accurate.   :)
