Do you have any other information on Mary?

You said you think she was born in Canada c. 1881.  The closest Canadian birth I can find is 1877 but neither of them have John as a father.  What was the last place of residence for her father John previous to her birth....this would help if she wasn't born in Canada we could check the Census of the area she did live in.  It would also help greatly to have her mothers name if possible.

Could you give us the name of the man she married and  if she married in Canada.

Do you know where her children were born or grew up?  Please do not name them if they are still living.

Any little bit of information helps...especially when basic details are fuzzy.

Hi Dollylee,

Thanks for the reply, I have very little information about Mary other than info from her death cert & marriage cert.

Both give her dob c1880/81 cannot find her on any census in uk ie 81/91/1901 she married my grandfather William Silk in the uk in 1914 giving her fathers name as John Rowledge - deceased.

Only other info is that my mother thinks she may have come from Canada!.
Sorry if it's not much help.

Who were the witnesses to the marriage, and her address?

How old was William Silk? I wonder if Mary might have shaved a little off her age when she married him, as she would have already been in her 30s.

Maybe Mary Ann was born after 1881 census and added a few years to her age when she got married because husband was so much older. Could she have been in Canada at time of 1901 census there?

Looking at the 1881 census, there are several John Rowledge in U.K. but none in Canada or U.S, unless the alternative spelling was really out of whack... Plus only a few Rowledge or alternatives in 1901 / 1911....with the only John having immigrated much later than the birth of Mary Ann...& No Mary Ann to be seen so far

Don't the wedding and death certificates have a place of birth listed on them?
My grandparents wedding certificate had place of birth (England for grandfather) and
when I ordered the death certificates for my ggrandparents they had place of birth on them (England for borth of them).  Is this only done in Canada?

Think English marriage certificates are same as Ireland (if I'm wrong someone will correct me)- residence of bride and groom at time of marriage not date or place of birth. Scottish certificates give much more detail.
