Marriage help please

Hiya All
             need a bit of help again if you can, I'm having trouble finding gg grandparents marriage.
Joseph Irving b 1829 Plumbland Cumberland
Mary Ann Addley b 1828 Papcastle Cumberland
I ordered a certificate from the GRO for jun 1859 10b 704 but they didn't send as the woman was not Mary Ann Addley,I have found 2 others for Joseph Irving both 1849 mar v25 pg 87 & dec v25 pg 111 but totally different women.
I am going by the district of Cockermouth Cumberland
                 Any help warmly welcomed

Hi Susan,

You may get a better response if you post this in Cumberland rather than England General - maybe one of the moderators will be kind enough to move it for you. 

Do you have the family in the 1861 census?
This says that Mary A and the chidren were born in what looks like "Goat" in Cumberland. Genuki doesn't show a place by this name. Maybe you will find their marriage in Goat?

Joseph appears unmarried in 1851 - and, with an eldest child aged 5 in 1861, looking for too early a marriage seems doomed to failure.

Mary Ann ADLEY was bap 9 Dec 1827 at Bridekirk, dau of Wm and Elizabeth.

Sarah IRVING's baptism (the first of their children) was 23 Sept 1855.

I'm struggling to see Mary Ann on censuses before 1861.

I have the info you kindly sent GeoffE and I think I have William Addley on the 1851 census but theres no Mary Ann but a Margt born about 1828.
On another trail I found a relative that was a visitor in Scotland & was on that census not with the rest of the family on the english census
Could this Margt be Mary Ann ? Did she change her name ? Could she be visiting 'somewhere'
I think I have William & Elizabeth on the 1841 census HO 107/160/14 at Goat,Papcastle theres no Mary Ann or Margt but there's Ann aged 13 which seems a bit of a coincidence MaryAnn margt& Ann all being born about 1828 don't you think ?

As an afterthought on the 1841 census theres quite a few men with the same job flax derfser? can't quite make it out.Any ideas ?

Might it be flax dresser? Apparently they prepared the flax for spinning.

The moderators will usually move a post if they think it's necessary - guess we'll have to wait till they 'do their rounds'.

Sorry I can't find the marriage, but I have looked at the image for the 1851 census and although it's transcribed as Margt I think it says MaryAnn.

Yes, definitely Mary Ann - compare with Margret six lines up.

My thanks to Ruskie,Daisypetal & GeoffE for your replies.I agree that it does look like Mary A & not Marget.Iwas a pay as you go with ancestry at the time so only printed the 'front cover' and not the original transcript,this is the second time that ancestry has transcribed wrong info. I'll have to pay more attention in future.
