Hello Merlin,
I wondered if you knew where I could get hold of the will for Isaac Chapman who died in Hobart in 1850.
I know one exists, but doesn't show up in the search portal from the Tasmanian archives.
His son Henry Chapman married Eliza Perkins, my GGGG Gparents.
Thank you.
Milton.

Hi Guys

Think I must have been asleep or something - just picked up on all the new action. Hello to Frogg - glad you've joined the gang.

I'm really interested in the Perkins tree dating back to Elijah Perkins.

I have found a baptisimal record for a John Perkins in 1813 in Westmister London. Birth - 25 Sept 1813, Christening - 17 Oct 1813, Father - John Perkins, Mother - Martha.

Looking at the info you have provided Frogg i'm just wondering if this is John Perkins (1812-1877), and possibly we can guess at him being son of John Perkins, brother to Susannah Eliza and Eliza Perkins so nephew to Susannah Eliza and Eliza Perkins. It's a guess, but might explain why he goes to Tas. It means  he marries his cousin (Emmely Frances Watchorn) which is nothing new. Who's Martha?

Will have a good look at all the new finds and hopefully not go back to sleep again, but got a big assessment on Friday so need to do some stuff on that before family tree!! (rather be doing this!)

Hi Perks 1,
Thanks for that.

Apologies for my silence to you and others involved but I am also trying to finish something and there are not enough hours in the day.

Good luck on your assessment

Cheers

The question marks mean just that....a possible connection, however the direct line back from Bingley Perkins is certain.

They were a family of Millwrights, Elijah's settlement papers to St Neots in 1758, & William his brother settlement papers to Godmanchester in 1765., both from St Mary's.

We couldn't find William & Dinah's marriage....still more work to do.

I don't think John Perkins born 1812 is son of Eliza & Susanna's brother, their brother was born in 1794, & would be too young if he survived at all.
But there are plenty more Johns in this extended family from which he could be descended.

Cheers.
Milton.

Hi Milton and all,

This is all good stuff.

Here are some links with a bit more food for thought.

http://www.hobartcity.com.au/HCC/STANDARD/2042747280/PC_1425.html

The above is a list of Aldermans and Mayor os Hobart.

There are lots of interesting mames:

James HARCOURT - Ironmonger - husband of  Lucy Ellen Watchorn (daughter of William Watchorn and Susannah Eliza Perkins  - Alderman 1877-1882, Mayor 1881-1882

John Perkins Jnr - Draper - Alderman 1875-1877, Mayor 1876-1877

James Henry Brett Walch - husband of Eliza Watchorn (daughter of William Watchorn and Susannah Eliza Perkins) - Alderman  1873-1875

John Watchorn - Publican and Wine Merchant - Alderman 1876-1896, Mayor 1890, 1894-96

W Watchorn - Shopkeeper - Alderman 1846-7, 1853-4

Also:
http://www.huntingdontown.gov.uk/mayor/pastmayors.html

This lists all the mayors of Huntington showing:

Henry Perkins  - Mayor 1917, 1918

John Perkins - Mayor 1786, 1790, 1802

There are also mentions of the DAY family, Captain William A Montagu and the Earl of Sandwich. The 'Sandwich' family name is Montagu. We have Walter Montagu Perkins in the tree - son of Herbert Howard Perkins. Just a thought!

Also found on Google Books:

An article in the New Monthly Magazine, 1814 on Huntingdon reading:

'Died - At Huntingdon, of croup, Mrs Wetherall, 38 - Mary, wife of Wm. Herbert Esq and second daughter of John Perkins, esq formerly a banker at Huntingdon.

Just wondering if this Perkins lot in Huntingdon may be of some influence.

Tis I, frogg,

I noticed John Perkins born 1812-d1877 was John jnr..!!  So we know his father was John.

Back to Huntingdon....A John Perkins was also banker in St Ives.

Could it be that he was the son of Elijah's brother John, who may have married Mary unknown?  The IGI's aren't very comprehensive for Huntingdon.

From IGI's

 WILLIAM HERBERT
 Marriage:     MARY PERKINS
09 DEC 1793      Saint Bartholomew The Great,  London, England.

Mary Perkins  daughter of John & Charlotte
Christening: 19 MAY 1774 All Saints And St Johns, Huntingdon, England
also Charlotte Christening: 05 MAY 1773
and Anne Christening: 19 JAN 1776

1. Charlotte Herbert
Christening: 06 MAY 1795 St Mary'S,  Huntingdon, England
2. Harriet Herbert
Christening: 07 JUN 1804 St Mary'S, Huntingdon, England
3. Lavinia Herbert
Christening: 05 OCT 1802 St Mary'S, Huntingdon, England
4. Mary Ann Herbert
Christening: 23 MAY 1796 St Mary'S, Huntingdon, England
5. Rebacca Frances Herbert
Christening: 06 JAN 1801 St Mary'S, Huntingdon, England

Cheers.
