Borders around various items

I have a New Drawing Icon when I click on it it leaves a shaded square behind on my document and the Drawing screen practically covers my document.
It is Microsoft Drawing 1.01

Some of those items are on my Standard Toolbar which is ticked.
Yours looks very user friendly.

Do you have this at the bottom of the screen - Autoshapes and the fill icon which, when clicked on, brings up this fill menu

No I don't have autoshapes at all and nothing at the bottom of screen.

If you go to Tools on the top bar and then Customise and this should bring up a Toolbar menu - see what you have clicked in there.  Make sure that Drawing is ticked

Haven't got a Customize
The only thing that comes near Customise would be Options but that only has items like spell check, theasurus, writing style and measurements whether centimetres or inches.
