Borders around various items
« on: Wednesday 12 March 08 18:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I wonder could anyone help me put a border around photographs, certificates, censuses.  I can only get a border around an item which I have resized, but the whole width of the page which looks silly.

Best wishes
Shirley

Hi Shirley  :)

I think it might be best to ask this on the photo board. I'll ask a mod to move it for you  :)

It depends which graphics packages you're using but most have the facility to add borders.

Can you explain some more or give us an example, please?

Shirley- do you mean putting a border around an item in a Word document or some other place?

Hello both

Sorry it is in a Word document ~ there is a facility for Borders but I can't get it to just be around a resized photo or census etc. it boxes it in to the width of the pages so there is the item in the centre and then a blank space until the black border at the full width of the page.

Best wishes

When you have the border to the edges with the item in the centre can you see where your margins are? If you highlight the item and then change the margin settings does it should the problem?

It's probably best to put the borders on your picture/certificate/census in a graphics package first and then insert it into your word document.  I think the word borders are (without checking) for the entire word document and not for inserts.

If you haven't got a graphics programme, someone may be able to suggest a free download.  Don't know if windows picture and fax viewer will do such, as I've never tried but will have a look.

I use Word all the time and have no problems putting a border, double border, etc. around a portion of text, etc.

I insert a picture, etc. from file then select the rectangle tool with no fill and put it around the image and select borders for that.
