Irregular marriages
« on: Wednesday 12 March 08 11:30 GMT (UK) »
Help please!  I am trying to trace the marriage of my gt.gt.grandparents - Theodore George Dixon b.abt.1839 North Wooler and Margaret Davidson b.abt.1839 Coldstream Berwickshire.  I have looked
at all the records for England and also on Scotlands People, but can find no matches.  Their first child Isabella Mary was born in Newcastle in  1861 - so I presume the marriage took place 1859/1860/1861.
Theodore George was also know as "just" George on some of the Census records, and I know that his father and his grandfather are buried in  the dissenters section of Wooler cemetery.

I couldn't find Theodore George Dixon on the GRO indexes for any quarter in 1857.  Is that how his name is spelled?

Hi Susan and Janis,
I am away from home and have just seen your replies.  Where did you find the records Susan -- do you know where in Newcastle they were married?  I could not find them at all on BMD.  Yes Janis the spelling is correct, but on a lot of records he is down as only George without the Theodore and on others he is George Theodore.  He was known as George in the family.

Ihave found records for Margaret Davidson married 2quarter Berwick Vol 10b p.420
                                                            and
George Dixon 2 quarter Berwick Vol10b p.414

Would this be a possibility even if the page numbers are different?
This is the nearest I've come to them so far and the location would tie in as being near to Coldstrem and Wooler.

It doesn't seem to turn up either on a search of the Newcastle on Tyne Registrar's site. There is a Margaret Davidson marriage in 1857, but it's to Matthew Richardson.

Thanks Jen,
I am beginning to think they never married at all!  The family of Theo George were Presbyterian and his father and grandfather are buried in the Dissenters section in Wooler, but at least 4 of the children of Theo George and Margaret were christened in St.Andrews, Newcastle.
