Census/BMD Look Ups Please
« on: Tuesday 11 March 08 16:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I have been researching the name White, and found my line and i do have already some census returns but i need some on ppl who are branched further away to who i was originally researching.

If i may start with the furthest back descendants:

Edward White he married Ann Davis 02/01/1929 St Martin, Birmingham, Warwick, England.

Both born in abt 1809.

They had only 3 sons to my knowledge.

John White b.1830 St Mary,Birmingham, Warwick,Eng.
Edward White b.1831 St Mary, Birmingham, Warwick,Eng.
Thomas White b.1835 St Mary, Birmingham, Warwick,Eng.

I have followed there son Edward, but would love some help in tracking the other two sons via census, as in 1861 census Edward and Ann have a granddaughter Ann D White(b.1853) living with them and she isn't Edwards.

As well as census if anyone could find the boys marriage and death details too.

Thanx rach.
Scott, Hanney Somerset
White, Somerset, Warwick, Buckinghamshire

Assume you have the 1841 census - with the whole family ?

HO107/1143/7; Birmingham; District: 18; Folio: 40; Page: 1 - St Marys Row.

Edward being an Engraver ?

Taking John, the oldest first - he is still at home in 1851 (St Marys Row still) - he is single, and his occupation is Agent ....

I'll see if Thomas is around elsewhere .

The family have a Registrar of Births and Deaths in the dwelling, albeit a seperate Schedule number......

This may be John in 1861 - altho there are othe Johns with close DoBs .... he has a son Edward, which  m a y  be the clincher, but you would have to get a Marriage Cert to verify - was his Father Edward.

Pity that the Grandchild with Edward and Ann in 1861 was only 8 - again you might have to get a birth Cert to +vly ID her if she's not linked on a later census.

Back in 1851, it looks like the younger brother Thomas, was apprenticed to a Druggist and DrySalter ?

HO107/2056; Folio: 236; Page: 25 - 52, Ludgate Hill, Brum St Pauls ...

John Coulson 24  Head Druggist & Dry Salter Stafford, Burton under Needwood
Ann Cox 38  Servant
William Jacombs 19  App Nuneaton
Thomas White 15  App Brum

So, if he keeps that occupation 10 years later, it will help pick him out from the other half dozen Thomas Whites who seem to have appeared on the scene ...  ;)

As you have access to the 1861 - have a look at this entry for a Thomas - a Druggist etc, but a cousin and I cant work out who of, or if he is married  ???

1871 again shows Ann D. White as a Granddaughter with Ann & Edward, but also a [Grand]son - John, whose age and PoB of Wolverhampton matches him to John Snr's son we found in 1861 ....

so are they bro and sis - hard to think she's be Thomas daughter .... he would still have been apprenticed ?

RG10/2970; Folio: 7; Page: 9 - Staffs, Handsworth

I see that Edward is now a Registrar - and next door is a Superintendant Registrar .....

I'll leave you to see what you can find in FreeBMD for Marriages and Births etc !
