I am researching john j ogrady have made some enquiries in relation to shelbourne hotel have not been able to make any connection to same sofar except his unit was under fire from there as the british army occupied the shelbourne. If you have any more information on how he was connected to the shelbourne let me know i might be able to check it out. This is areply to an enquiry from duffygrady in2008.John O Grady was a volunteer in jacobs who was shot and died while on a sortee from jacobs to try and relieve the pressure off bolands mill he was the only causualty from the jacobs garrison he is mentioned inthe witness statements from jacobs which can be found on the national archives web site. These witness statements are worth a look at as they are quite informative and give an insite to the happenings in this area.dub2

I know that my great grandfather was involved in the 1916 Easter Rising, and so far as I know he was in Bolands Mills, but I'm not sure. His name was Leo Fitzgerald. Does anyone know where I could find information about this?

Hi,
He was in the Boland’s Mill garrison, his name is on the National Roll, I have put a link below to my website containing a list of those on this roll. You can apply to the Army Pensions Office in Galway if he made an application for a pension they will have a copy, if you look at The Researching Irish Medals link on my website it will give you an idea what it the pension application looks like and the type of information it contains.

From Joseph E.A. Connell's book "Dublin in Rebellion" the list of men in the Boland's Mill Garrison includes Leo Fitzgerald.

Apart from his name being listed, there is little further information that I can find in the book.

Under Great Brunswick St. (now Pearse St.) it reads:

"Home of Leo and Billy Fitzgerald. The family's members were prominent Volunteers in the 3rd Battalion; raided for arms in February 1916. After the Rising, Seán McMahon, Quartermaster of the IRA/Volunteers, used their house as his HQ."

Dara.

Thank you! Although I made a mistake, Leo Fitzgerald was my great great uncle, still family though.  ;D

trtied irishmedals site.  It is very helpful.  Found my grandfather thomas o,reilly and his brother patrick listed on the jacobs biscuit factory list. I know he had some medals and am wondering if there is a list of receptients for the 1916 uprising.  Many thanks.
