Firstly, thanks to everyone that's posted info on here. Very much appreciated.

Just wondering if anyone would have any info on my grandfather Michael Mervyn, who served with the Irish Citizen Army in 1916. Was at the Four Courts, sentenced to death but was given penal servitude. I've seen his name mentioned on a couple of threads here. Would be grateful for anything else that might turn up.

We have various 1916 clippings, etc. at home but I never got to meet him as Michael died when my dad (also Michael) was only 20.

I think that this person in the listing, "br Omninghini 3 Upr Ode! St", should actually be James Cunningham of 3 Upper Oriel Street. He was the 2nd husband of my wife's great grand mother, Sarah McMahon O'Reilly, of the same address. He was born around 1870 in Drogheda and was a Tailor. According to my wife's family he served in Boland's Mill.

Gormongenealogy, many many thanks for the names lists as I keep referring to these in my research, however, they seem to have dropped off the link (or is it not uploading on my PC?)?

Sonoma, I have just visited Dublin and  went to the National Museum to view the 1916 exhibition and look at the Roll Of Honour (on a computer only) where I found my grandfather Denis Byrne on the St.Stephens Green garrison list. But I can't seem to find a web link that has the full list so it looks like the only way to see this is visit the museum?(hopefully I can be corrected by friends on the site!).

I am researching john j ogrady have made some enquiries in relation to shelbourne hotel have not been able to make any connection to same sofar except his unit was under fire from there as the british army occupied the shelbourne.If you have any more information on how he was connected to the shelbourne let me know i might be able to check it out. This is areply to an enquiry from duffygrady in2008.John O Grady was a volunteer in jacobs who was shot and died while on a sortee from jacobs to try and relieve the pressure off bolands mill he was the only causualty from the jacobs garrison he is mentioned inthe witness statements from jacobs which can be found on the national archives web site.These witness statements are worth a look at as they are quite informative and give an insite to the happenings in this area.dub2

My understanding is that much of the gunfire from the Shebourne was aimed at the defence positions established inside Stephens Green, where trenches were dug and the entrances and surrounding roads were blocked. Some of the the surrounding buildings on the on the West and south of Stephen's Green (College of Surgeons, Little's pub etc) were also occupied by volunteers and could also have come under fire from the Shelbourne

My grandfather was part of St.Stephens garrison on Monday but moved to occupy  'Littles' pub in Cuffe street, (to the west of the green) from Tuesday to Thursday, but very little (sic) is known about this with a few footnotes in Charles Townsends '1916'. It may be John also occupied one of the buildings surrounding the green (possibly Littles too?) which were noted as being more favourable positions. If you have his pension there is likely to be more detail? It does look like there are other significant occupations of (minor) buildings that have received much less attention in the official histories.
