Garrigill gravestones

I have just completed the gravestone inscriptions for Garrigill. Just like Alston they are in a very poor condition and in fact they are made worse by someone
who has used a scraper and possibly wire brush. I find it best just to use a small hand spray and a soft brush and if that does not work leave well alone.
Here are the surnames if anyone is interested.:- Armstrong, Archer, Anderson, Bell, Burn?, Brown, Beck, Bowman, Barbour, Bramwell, Carr, Cousin, Clemenston, Coulthard, Charlton, Caly, Davidson, Dickinson, Forster, Graham, Gibson, Greenwell, Hetherington, Harrison, Hodgson,Hall, Little,Lough, Millican, Maughan,Park, Parmley, Reed, Richardson, Fair, Smith, Slack, Spark, Stout, , Shaw, Shield, ShortridgeTeasdale, Varty, Vipond, Whitfield, Walton,Wanlass, Wilkinson, Ward, White, Waugh, Watson, Wallace, Wood .

Hello Jackie. Here are the Garrigill, WATSON gravestone inscriptions.
In memory of Thomas Watson of Dryburn who died July/18/1845 age 52 years.
Also Elizabeth his wife who died Jan/30/1882 age 71 years.
And Elizabeth their daughter who died in infancy.
Also Mary their daughter and widow of Jonathan Spark of Hilton Hall who died at Dryburn Feb/4/1887 age 52 years.
The 3 and the 5 in the above are so alike that it is difficult to  to differentiate between them so that you may have to bear that in mind .

To the memory of Joseph Henry Watson of High Rotherhope? died Dec/25/1933 age 59 years.
Also his wife Mary Annie beloved wife of the above died March/22/1930 aged 40 years.
Also John William their son died March/8/1904 age 1 year 9 months?.

In memory of Joseph Watson who died May/1808 age 68? years
Also Hannah Watson wife, who died at Path?? age 73 years.
Also Thomas Watson son of the above Joseph and Hannah Watson who died ?? 1819.
The above stone is of the Cumberland red stone and it is prone to lichen and this makes reading difficult.

In memory of Thomas Watson who died at Red Brow 3/Nov/1877 age 60 years.
Also of Mary his wife who died at Garrigill 17/June/1847 age 25 years.
Also of Hannah his second wife who died 11/May/1874 age 47 years and was interred at Nenthead.

There is another stone for 1962 that I have not included in case it offends someone.

The Garrigill gravestones I'm interested are Richardson and Archer.

8956. In loving memory of Thomas Archer of Garrigill born Apr/7/1823 and died Jan/22/1899.
And of Isabella his wife born Oct19/1830  died Oct25/1905.
And of John their son born Feb/23/1849 died  Sep/2/1909.
And of Jason their son born Apr/23/1851 died May/1851?.
And of Thomas their son born Apr/13/1852 died Mar/26/1874.
And of Hannah their daughter born Nov/10/1854 died Feb/25/1861?
And of Mary their daughter born Apr/23/1857 died Jul/3/1878.
And of Jason their son born Oct/7/1859 died Mar/10/1860.
And of William their son born Jan/30/1861 died Dec/10/1863.

8954. Elizabeth wife of Joseph Richardson of Garrigill who died Oct/13/1894 age 39 years.
Also the above Joseph Richardson who died Mar/3/1910 age 57 years.
Also Sydney their son who died Aug/13/1907 age 21 years.
Also of James their son who died Mar/2/1912 age 34 years.

8970. A small stone without dates and just says :-
In loving memory of Olive and james Richardson.

The wording above is the exact wording on the stones. You will see that a couple of the numbers are a bit iffy. (blame the lichen for that.)

Adam, thank you so much for your prompt reply.  Sounds as if you did an incredible amount of work in that churchyard!  I take it that there are no 18th or early 19th century gravestones?

Hello again. There are old gravestones but they are the only ones for Archer and Richardson.
The gravestones in that churchyard are a very sorry state along with the neglected state of the grounds.
It is a shame that there no are volunteers from the village to look after it.
