Hi again. I have another query. Could you send the details of the Whitfields as they were related by marriage via the Watsons and Pickerings to the Carrs. Any information about these families would be great.
Thanks again for all your work.
Chrisly
Sorry appear to have posted this to myself when meant for Adamand

Hello Chrisly. I am very annoyed with myself for posting the "Archer" inscription again.
I have already posted it on post number 5. There are also postings for "Watson" on post number 3.
I keep a record of all my postings so I do not repeat them and seeing that Garrigill was not a busy thread I did not check.
It is really a good idea to read all the postings because you may get unexpected links from reading them.
There are Whitfield inscriptions at Garrigill and I will post them later.
If there are no surnames (Pickering) on my first post listing then there will be no inscription for that name.
All surnames from all gravestones are listed on the first posting.

Adam

Sorry for causing you more work than was needed. As you may have guessed I am new to all of this and will take your advice. Looking forward to the information on the Whitfields.
Thanks again Chrisly

Hello Chrisly. Here are two or should I say one and a half?

In memory of John Whitfield of ????????, who died August 8th 1783 aged 49 years.
Also Jane his wife, who died December 6th 1821 aged 87 years.
William their son, died April 4th 1801 aged 40 years.
And John their son, died January 23rd 1825 aged 52 years.
Also Thomas their son, who died December 17th 8145 aged 68 years.
And Francis their son, who died December 18th ???? aged 83? years.

This next one is affected by a white lichen and along with it being old is not in a good condition. Here is what can be read.

In memory of Frances Richard
son, of Pow????s Whitfield, who died January 15th 1753.

I think it is Richardson but it could also be a spelling mistake  and read "Francis Richard son of Pow???? Whitfield" I have laid it out as it is on the stone. I have included this inscription because Whitfield is mentioned.

Hello Adam. Thanks for those the Francis and Thomas mentioned are mine I think. I have a will from them which fits in with the dates and came into our family via a tangled web of other Garrigill families.
Thanks again for your sterling work

Hello Tomatilo. There is just the one gravestone and it is in poor condition. It s covered by white lichen.
Here is what can be read. With the question marks you will have to take care.

In loving memory of Jonathan Greenwell of Garrigill, who died November/28/1905 age 82 years.
Also of Mary his wife, who died July/16/1909? aged 85 years.
Also Mary Ellen, daughter of the above, who died June/8/??? aged 23 years.

Adam,
Thanks for putting me on to this site. The logical thing would be to ask you for the details of the Stout headstones. They will definitely be relevant.
Also a few others that intermarried with Stouts, Vipond for example (already read).
Many thanks in advance.
