British Convicts Shipped to American Colonies
« on: Thursday 06 March 08 09:00 GMT (UK) »
The following provides a link to an interesting paper on early transportation of British convicts to American colonies.

Nothing Fife specific but there are some references to the prisoners that were transported to Virginia after the battle of Dunbar and it certainly provides an interesting insight into the scale of early transportations and the new life that awaited the individuals involved:-

Enjoy!

George, Thank you very much for the link however the webpage no longer exists.  :(  My 9th great grandfather was shipped to The Colonies after being captured at the 1650 Battle of Dunbar. A list of Scot prisoners captured at the Battle of Dunbar on 03 Sep 1650 and deported to The Colonies aboard the Unity in Nov 1650 can been seen at the R. Stanton Avery Special Collections Department at the New England Historic Genealogy Society in Boston, MA, USA.  To my knowledge no one has yet located the results of the report request (dated 03 Feb 1652, Common Journal, Volume 7, page 254, column 1, paragraph 4).
