PERRETT to MASTERS
« on: Wednesday 05 March 08 13:33 GMT (UK) »
Hello Wiltshire Rootschatters!

I need your valued help with this one please.  I have the marriage of John PERRETT to Ann MASTERS on 7 August 1820 in St. Martin's Parish Salisbury.  No ages are given for the bride or groom, just "over 21".

John says he was "of Fonthill Bishop" but having searched the records and not found a baptism for him there, it seems likely he was simply living (and working?) there at the time of his marriage.

Ann says she was "of this parish" - meaning St. Martin's.

3 of the children of John and Ann were baptised in Fonthill Gifford and 1 in St Martin's Parish (1821, 1823, 1825, 1830)

Can anyone help me find where John Perrett was born please?

Many thanks

If you are still having trouble finding the birthplace of your ancestor try searching in Erlestoke and Potterne. There were some Perrett families in those villages. I have a (so far unconfirmed) link to Perretts in these areas.

What is your connection to Poterne/erlestoke Perrett's?
I mean, what line are you connected to, as Bartholomew [lawyer] from Beechingstoke appears to be the head of 4 branches that I have found so far.

My 3 x great grandmother was, I believe, Elizabeth Bond born 1795 in Reading, Berks. Tracing this family back using the IGI (therefore no documentary evidence as yet) she could be the  daughter of Aaron Bond and Jane Avery who married at Burghfield in 1791. Aaron was born in Potterne and Jane in Enborne. Aaron's mother could be Elizabeth Perrett born Potterne 1740 one of 11 children of Richard Perrett of Erlestoke born 1703 and Elizabeth nee Blanchett.  It's all very tentative and I don't live in the area so haven't yet been able to visit local records offices and churchyards but hope to do so in the future. Why couldn't I have learned all this when I lived in Swindon years ago!! Oh well. Would love to know if anyone can add information about these families. I do have some bits and pieces which other researchers have sent me but no mention of the name Masters. I have found a Bartholomew born c.1520. He could easily fit in with this family.

Kind regards to all Perrett researchers out there.

Hi,

I have the Perrett family tree going back to Bartholomew c1520, my mothers' maiden name being Perrett.
I have the whole tree on Genes Reunited and if you'd like to have a look I'll allow access to my tree.
Now I know what Richard's wife's maiden name is, thanks.
I don't have any 'Masters' on the tree though.
Regards
Diane

Hello Diane
I would like to see your Perrett tree but at the moment don't have an account with Genes R. I will re-establish my account within a day or two and when you have the required number of posts perhaps you could send me a PM.
Regards
