If you are researching families from Cheshire please state the Family and the area you are interested in.
FENWICK (Edmund) born Newton Hyde, Cheshire in 1853.  It appears his father was Aaron Fenwick and his mother was Sarah Lee Tow, both from that area.  He married Ruth Dobson in Keighley, Yorkshire in 1873, but information about his origins in Cheshire are my prime interest.  Please help.

Hi Wendy
There does not seem to be a birth for Edmund in the Cheshire index, nor is there an entry for the family in the 1851 census index,If you have a birth certificate can you provide an address and which reg.office issued it, it is possible that they may be over the border in the Lancashire registration areas. Do you know if he had any siblings at all ?

Hi Again Wendy

I decided to see if any of the family could be found in the 1871 just to check birth place.

1871 RG10-4310-f71 Lane Bottom Micklethwaite Bingley

Aaron Fenwick 39  weaver              born Bingley Yorks
Sarah     ~       41                                ~     ~        ~
Edmund ~       18    ~                          ~     ~        ~

There seems to be a conflict between this and his 1881 birthplace ?

On the 1881 for Sarah I found her aged 50 widow born Hyde. It does seem the 1871 may be wrong

Hi Wendy
It seems that your people were on the Lancashire side of the boundry, I did a search of the relevant census and found the following.

1861 RG9-2881-F 38  Back Lane Newton Mottram-in-Longendale

Aaron Fenwick 31  cotton weaver        born Newton Cheshire
Sarah              33      ~        ~                         ~            ~
Edmund            8   scholar                              ~            ~

1851 HO107-2236-F 91 Back Lane Newton

William Fenwick 51 power loom weaver     Yorkshire Denbigh ?
Mary         ~      51                                           ~        Bradford ?
Martha              25   ~         ~         ~              ~        Denbigh ?
Joseph              23   ~         ~         ~          Cheshire Newton
Aaron               21    ~         ~        ~               ~           ~
John                 15    ~         ~        ~               ~         Hyde
Alfred               15    ~         ~         ~              ~         Newton
Ann                    9    scholar                            ~         Newton

I am not sure that the birth addresses of Denbigh is correct, as far as I am aware Denbigh is in Wales and there is a Denby in Derbyshire,I have produced an image so maybe someone out there can help out ?

regards

Dear Peter,  I am delighted with the information you have been able to discover about my great grand father, Edmund Fenwick.  I gave you all the information I had and it was based on family 'hear-say.'  Not always reliable, but it was a start.  Now I have not only names, but places as well and that is a real thrill.  Also the reassurance of official records to back up my Family Tree records.
Sorry to have been so long responding, I have been away visiting grand children.  Your messages were an unexpected bonus when I returned!
Thank you  so much,
Wenyd in Western Australia
