Hi rootschatters
does anyone know where Derwick Grove Maitland NSW is?
My great great grandmother was born there.I have written to maitland council with no results hoping you can help me.
It sounds like a name of a property but not sure
Sarah Daley born 1831 Father Thomas Mother Anne Walker.

On IGI  there is a marriage that also states they married in Derwick Grove,Via, Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. Maybe it is like a old railway sideing, or a like a old Stock and Station stop.

Sorry not much of a help.

Hi Liz

Just had a look in my Gregory's  nothing on Derwick Grove  probably as Liz says a property many many years ago, could have been renamed now.

The links below will also provide further historical information on Morpeth, Maitland & surrounds:

Hi Liz,
How do you know they were married there?

Do you have a certificate ?

If IGI is the only source, it may be doubtful.

As Sue asked.. do you have a certificate that actually states that?
I have a CD of NSW BMD and it says she was Roman Catholic and the Parish was St Mary's Sydney.
Also I grew up about 15 minutes away from Maitland (still live within 45 minutes of it) and I have never heard of Derwick Grove.

Hi Liz,

Have you had any luck tracking down "Derwick Grove" in Maitland?

Q1. Who was your GGG Gandfather/Mother working for in 1831? [My ancestors were working for Capt. Francis Allman at Rathluba East of Wallis Creek, My GGG Grandmother was assigned to Emanuel Hungerford prior to 1831].

Q2. My ancestors where also Catholic. I understand that the first catholic church in East Maitland was build in 1832.
My ancestors got married in 1831 in CofE ceremony at the school house 27NOV1831, and again in 1832 in Catholic church cerimony.  The first child baptism record shows the abode a DERWICK Grove, Maitland.

Q3.Do your certificates refer to:
a) Derwick Grove, Maitland
b) Derwick Grove, Via.  Maitland
c) other

I will keep you posted if I find anything, I am currently going through old maps to track things down

my email is:  (*)

Regards

Ian
