WWI or WWII

Hi,

I have this picture of my Grandad (Restored by the other Board - Thanks again) but I am unsure as to which war it is from.  I was told he was in both lied to get into WWI and was 40 years old in WWII (born 1900)

As far as I am aware he was in the Prince of Wales Own Yorkshire Regiment.

I may be wrong, but if it was a Prince of Wales regiment, it would have 3 plumes on the badge

I can confirm that is the cap badge of the Prince of Wales West Yorkshire Regiment.

Hes definately West Yorks Regiment  circa Great War probably after 1916...He looks a very young lad...Was he from Bradford? If so the library has a Roll of Honour for those who served with enlistment dates on it and addresses.

Many thanks to everyone who have helped me.

mmm45 - Grandad was from Shipley so will probably be on the Bradford Roll but its not on my bus route ) and it will be a while before I get back to the UK.  I have the Roll for Bradford and he's not in there but there are a few missing anyway (ones that I know were in the War)

Grandad would never speak of the War - if you asked he just ignored the question and would very quickly change the subject - all I know is he was Red Cross,  was missing in action in 1940 - escaped via the French Underground and was hidden on a farm in France and then was on one of the last boats out of Dunkirk.  Nan went down the Salvation Army to speak to Soldiers that had made it back to see if anyone had seen or knew anything of him - he got back though.  He never left the UK again he worked with the POW's.  Thats all I really know and thats from my Nan

Its all change now as I have a copy of Grandads Record of Service (oooops I was wrong ( )

West Yorkshire Regt 03/10/1922 - 02/10/1930  (married Nan in 1932)
A.M.P.C () 09/03/1940 - 02/09/1941
Kings Rgt 03/09/1941 - 03/10/1945

No other details just No: 13010896 Rank PTE Name STARKEY Robert Served in Regts/Corps as follows The Kings Regiment.

It has a Record Office Stamp on but all I can make out is Preston Record Officer is R Murphy

Got to wonder what he would be doing in the Army 1922 - 1930 - if anyone can help ..............

Well bearing that little lot in mind and the other comments on the picture - I think its possibly from his first stint in the Army - he certainly does not look in his 40's

This has dates for WYR Whereabouts in the 20s and 30s.
 The photo still looks great war circa it could be he was in a training battalion for young soldiers and didnt actually deploy...There is a Medal Card for a Robert Starkey West Yorks Regiment and Labour Corps but hard to prove without a number.
