are you saying she might have registered the birth awhile after the birth and got the date wrong?do you think it is worth getting the certificate or not,i dont want to waste money.

ALWAYS get the certificates.  It's the only way to prove your findings.  Otherwise, it's all just speculation.

Births were mandated to be registered after Sep 1837, but people didn't always comply right away.

Parish registers will show baptisms; I've seen a few that include both birth and baptism dates (invaluable!!).

Before Sep 1837, parish registers were the only "registrations" of any kind for birth/baptism.  Children were usually baptised a month after birth, but not always.  I happen to know my grandmother was born in October and not baptized until the following January.

If you haven't already done so, PLEASE visit your local LDS Family History Center (FHC).  They are invaluable resources.  The Mormons filmed original registers and other parish documents and these are available on microfiche and/or microfilm that you can order sent to your FHC and review there.

i will do.talktalk and aol are doing some repairs on their lines so its really hit and miss whether i can get on the web or collect emails at the moment.its driving me bonkers.i have over 600 certificates either my own or copies sent to me/but never the one i want.can you get certs before 1837,or do you have to look in the parish registrars?i live in the depths of the country miles from the nearest small town so its difficult for me to get to a decent libary or mormon place.i expect tauntons the nearest and thats 22 miles away and i dont drive!!i am also diabled so its a bug bear.but i do thank you all for your help.its given me a load of leads to look through.i am going to see if any of thomas and elizabeths children(the males)married and had either a charlotte or a william.if they did it might make the connection for henry 1839/42 and my robert 1831.be good would it not.i have quite a few certs to order on monday.is this the end of my hunt now?or does it continue until monday as it did not start till tuersday.anyway whatever,i hope to do some of your hunts with ypou and also continue with friendships made on this one.lots of romany hugs cathay

yes i should have thought of that,my husband and his sisters were baptised when he was 19 years old!!!but i think its the birth registry i have got hold of.can they be late with that aswell?cathay.oh more bits about some hughes on new link today in the travellers bit.you know on the general board.
