I am researching my family tree and have established that the Mclean family have lived in Sandsend since the late 1700's. I have a reasonable amount of history of the Mcleans Sandsend as well as research of the Mclean Clan of Scotland.
Having recently come across a newspaper article I am now trying to link these Mcleans to Scotland. Information in the article says that a Robert Alexander Mclean came to live in Whitby in 1754-55 after serving on board a Whitby Whaling Ship. He apparently boarded this ship in Dingwall, Scotland a few years earlier after fleeing the battle of Culloden and making his way to Dingwall. He became a member of the crew and on return to Whitby decided to make it his home.
I would be most grateful for any information, advice, links, to help me verify this story.
