Looking at the satellite images I can see a church yard on the corner of Eton Wick Road and 'Sheepcote' Road , what is this one ? It's a problem being 12,000 miles away  :-)

The church with no name on the Eton Wick road just as you get into Eton is apparently called Chapel of Ease, Eton  www.geograph.org.uk/photo/71143

Hello

I have a copy of the baptism record of my g.grandfather Charles George Goodwin.  He was baptised in the Parish of Eton on April 21, 1830 (Page 128).  Would this be St. John the Evangelist?  I ask because his father is shown as George and his mother as Rebecca.  George's trade or profession is given as "Servant".  I have records tracing Rebecca Goodwin from this date to her death in 1880 but I cannot trace any record for George Goodwin after the baptism.

On the marriage certificate of his son, the father for Charles George is shown as "John George Goodwin" not simply "George Goodwin" but I have reason to believe that at this date - January 12th, 1852 - John George was dead and whoever had been asked for the father's name had more formerly given his full name, and not simply "George".   He was again described as a "Servant".  He does not appear in the 1841 or 1851 census and a search carried out for me by Bucks. FHS did not disclose any B.M.D. record.

On the 1911 census form, Charles George Goodwin's birthplace is shown as "Eton Colledge, Buckinghamshire" (sic).  The form appears to have been completed by the enumerator who may have heard "Eton" and assumed this meant Eton College.  But, of course, Eton College might well have been Charles' birthplace.  I wrote to the College Archivist but he was unable to help in ascertating whether John George might have been a servant in the College.

Has anyone any burial records or any other pertinent record and would be willing to check any entry for John/John George/George Goodwin for me?

Thanks

Jack
