PATTERSON - Fintona & Environs, Dunbreen in Cappagh, Omagh

If your researching anywhere near those areas make contact and we'll see if we have any research in common.

My maternal grandmother was Margaret Wilkinson from Newtownstewart and the family worked on the Abercorn Estate in Baronscourt, having originally come from the Hamilton estates in Scotland. Her grandfather James was head gardener in Baronscourt. Please contact me for further details if this is the same family.

My paternal family tree includes a Hugh Patterson who married Alice Vaughan - no issue. Also a Sarah Patterson who married into Newtownstewart Vaughan family.

Hi I am researching Wilkinsons in the Newtownstewart area of Co. Tyrone - my mother being a Wilkinson before marriage. Please contact me if you have any information on the family which worked on the Abercorn estate and most of whom are buried in Baronscourt Graveyard. I know that there was a branch of the famiy who moved to Omagh - the only name I have for them is a Charlie (the Blacksmith)

Hmmm!  The Wilkinson in-law side of my family (2nd Gr Grand-aunt married into the family) is across the border in Creeslough Co. Donegal.  I'm also told my supposed 5th Gr Grandfather (James Graham) married into the Wilkinson's (Elizabeth Wilkinson) as well as his first son Thomas Graham (m. Mary Wilkinson).

The family still has a presence there.  Oral family history has it that a coachman (a Wilkinson) for the "Lord" of the estate ran off with the "lords" daughter with the priest (and others) giving chase.  Never did find out which "lord" they were talking about though.

Added note: I had my Y-Chr DNA tested and matched a Patterson surname.  Don't know how this individual and I are related yet.
Graham AND Wilkinson of Donegal (Creeslough, Mevagh, Milford)

Charles WILKINSON (A Blacksmith) was my wife's paternal grandfather. He had a son Ben WILKINSON who was born in Newtownstewart but lived in Omagh after he got married.

Best Wishes,
derrydale

Hi Derrydale

That is really interesting. So was Ben WILKINSON your father in law?

Hi, My Name is James Patterson,
I'm from Christchurch New Zealand, I now live in Mosgiel, New Zealand,  I'm a Gold Mine Mechanic, have been gold mining for the last 12-13 years, I took a break after the Christchurch Earthquake and lived in Melbourne, returned to Hokitika in 2014
My father John is from the West Coast of New Zealand.
Both sides of my family were living in Reefton, New Zealand, after moving from Greta, Victoria.

i'm learning more about my heritage currently, and wanted to know if we were part of the Kelly gang?
