Hi Terry,

Thanks for checking those names for me.  Yes I'd very much like to see the McGaw names if you don't mind.  The McGrath, McGraw and McGrain are all the same family, they had a habit of changing their surname so the McGaw could be them.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for Henry & Eliza.  I'm can't confirm they are part of the family but there is every possibility they are.

It's a John & Isabella McGraw/McGrain/McGrath & their family I'm looking for.  John's family did come from Ireland and I do have a record of John and Isabella living in Kirkcolm for a while.  So quite a lot fits as you can see.

Erected by Jean McMaster to the memory of her husband William McGaw late tenant in Craigcaffe who died 27th April 1837 aged 77 years. Also the above jean McMaster his spouse who died March 25th 1847 aged 72.


Erected by Andrew McGaw Shoemaker, Stranraer. In memory of Jane Gilmour his mother who died 28 Novr 1861 aged 66 years. Also William McGaw his son who died 21st October 1862 aged 16 months. Also William McGaw his father who died 17th December 1864 aged 76 years. Also Robert McGaw his brother who died (blank space) aged 56 years. Also William McGaw his brother who died 9th January 1878 aged 54 years. Also James McGaw his son who died 18th January 1882 aged 16 years. Also John McGaw his brother who died 11th January 1891 aged 62 years. Also the erector Andrew McGaw who died 16th October 1893 aged 70 years. Also Jane McBlain wife of the above Andre McGaw who died 31st Ocotber 1899 aged 69 years.

Amazing how much writing the could get onto a stone!!

Thank you VERY much Terry, I will go check out all those names.  There are plenty which sound familiar so I'm hoping these might be some of my McGraw/McGrain/McGrath with another surname to add to their collection - McGaw!

Hi Terry,

I wish that I were tramping around Inch graveyard with you, but, it's such a long swim from Melbourne, Australia to the West Coast of dear Auld Scotland!

What I'm looking for is anything about the ARMSTRONG's or the LITTLE family. All I know, at the moment, is that one member of that family married on 15th November, 1836 at Inch in Wigtownshire. A bit of a long shot, I suppose, but, nothing ventured - nothing gained, eh?

I'm sorry but there are no Littles or Armstrongs listed on the MI'S for Inch Old Parish Churchyard or Soulseat Burial Ground. I also had a look at the Kirkcolm Old Parish Churchyard none there either. I also looked at the 1841 Index for Inch there are 2 Littles-  Jane 20 b Ireland living at Kirminnoch
                Margaret aged 45 Farmer b Ireland living at
                Kirminnoch

1841 - Armstrong John 20 Ag Lab Village of Lochans
                  "       Susanna 20             "             "
                  "       Robert 3                  "             "
                  "       William 1                  "             "

Also   Armstrong Robert 2 months Scotland living Lochans Mills

         Armstrong Margaret 25 female servant living Drumdoch.

Hope you get lucky with the Armstrongs and Littles and at least the sun will be shining in Australia more than can be said for Scotland right now!!!
