Elizabeth Ann WALKER, Shankill district
« on: Sunday 02 March 08 15:09 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a WALKER family in Belfast.  The daughter, Elizabeth Ann, married Stephen DAVIDSON in 1907.  On the marriage cert Elizabeth says she was at 52 Elm Street and a street directory prior to 1907 shows an Eliza at no 52, whom I take to be her.  I have absolutely nothing on her family at all, but her father was a John WALKER, sailor.  Eliza must have been born around 1880-1890.  The bride's witness was a Maria MORRISON, but I have no idea who she was.  Would love to make contact with anyone connected to WALKERs in Belfast.

Thank you for confirming the marriage details and the entry from the 1907 directory.  I have nothing further on Elizabeth's origins and don't know if she was actually born in Ireland.  Stephen DAVIDSON and Elizabeth had at least one daughter - Eileen Victoria DAVIDSON - who was born January 1918, possibly in Belfast.

Hi.
Elm Street was off Conduit Street which was off Donegall Pass, which runs from Ormeau Road to Shaftesbury Square. Most of that area has been redeveloped, so these streets may not exist anymore, at least as they were.
St Mary Magdalene Church of Ireland, refered to by Otto, would be the local C.o.I. church, still operational. The area would be in the Parish of Shankill.
I think the local Presbyterian Church would be Great Victoria Street Presb., Ch.
Regards,
Dixie

Thanks Hughie and Dixie for your help with the WALKERs and Elm Street.  Unfortunately I don't have any information on my John WALKER at all.  I only have the marriage of his daughter in Belfast.  I'm estimating John was born sometime between 1840 and 1860.  I don't have a wife or any other children for him.  I don't have a match for John in the 1901 census either and can't be sure that these WALKERs originated in Belfast.

Hi,
I am also researching Belfast Walker's. Unfortunately I can't see a link between my Walker 'branch' and any of the details given here. The following is therefore for information purposes only.

George Walker (b.1842 Hillsborough) married Margaret McDowell (b.1850 Donaghadee) in 1871. Around 1888-1891 they lived at 15 Walnut Street which adjoins Elm Street. They had previously lived at St Andrews Square, Rotterdam St, and Spruce St. After Walnut St the family moved to the Templemore Ave/Mount St/Willowfield area of East Belfast.

Best wishes with your research.

John

Going through older posts and came across this one. By now you might have been able to find more information but if you haven't done so the following might be of interest.

The 1901 and 1911 census are now both online. The 1911 census shows an Elizabeth Walker in Elm Street but she's a 69 uear old widow so not likely to be the Eliza who married Stephen Davidson in 1907.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks, yes I have come across this Eliza and I believe she is the mother of my Elizabeth Ann WALKER as Elizabeth's daughter was born in Elm Street, Belfast.
