1851 census

Hi
      would anyone be able to do a 1851 census look up for me in the Dublin area for a James Mcnamara and his family he retired from the army in 1843 in gosport southampton i,m trying to find out if all the family returned to ireland with him.
Mary his wife. sons Charles , John, William, and a daughter mary these were all on 1841 in ipswich barracks in suffolk.
     I know that James is on the 1863 directory for dublin with his son Charles Rexter Mcnamara.  but i,d like to try and find where his son John may have gone to either with them to ireland or ? into the army.
   any help i would be most gratefull

1901 is first complete census for all Ireland. Only small fragments of earlier records survive. For 1851 census (Dublin) index to heads of households, by street and parish, is in National Archives.
The 1851 + 1841 census records were used to substantiate early pension claims and some extracts from the pension claims are available on certain pay sites and possibly microfilmed by LDS (check catalogue to verify).

   Thankyou for that quick reply, I,v not long come back from going up to the national archives in feb where i finnally found James Mcnamara,s papers for discharge from the 7th royal dragoon guards, also found out his birth place as Langford in the county of Langford,
  I,m now trying to trace his family so trying to find out whether son John returned with them to dublin or not,
   Anyway thankyou so much for repling, i,ll have to find another means of tracing him.

The 1851 census extract covers the city area - roughly the area between the canals, so would probably not include Rathmines.
