Hello Valry
Sorry not to have replied earlier but have been overseas.

I have a family tree of Forfars going back to Thomas Forfar b. 1805 in Scotland (not sure where possibly Dumfreisshire).  He was married to Mary ? (Kirkpatrick??) and their first son was James, born 1826 (possibly in Annan, Dumfreis).

James married Margaret Simons and their first son was James Alexander Maitland Forfar.  He was born 15.4.1853 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool, and married Sarah Harriet Honney in 1873.

James and Sarah's  third son was George Thomas Forfar, born 13 June 1891 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool,  and who married May Dorothy Eustatia Palmer on 16 November 1914.  George also lived in Cardiff, Wales, emigrating to Melbourne in 1923.

My link to this is through my maternal grandfather, William Forfar, born 1886 in Toxteth, son of William (b. 1857) who was the brother of James Alexander Maitland Forfar.  He and his family lived in Cardiff, Dover and Southampton. The name Maitland seems to have been a family name as I have an uncle and cousin on my mother's side who also have Maitland as a second name.

If you would like the names of other ancestors I will be happy to give them to you.

I have not used Rootschat before, not sure what a pm is - yet!  I hope the information is of use to you.

Best wishes

Hi Kastanea,
I'm not sure if you saw my note to Valry in the last few days but my grandfather was James Honney Forfar and was the son of James Alexander Maitland Forfar. My grandfathers' middle name came from his mothers' maiden name, as was the custom in those days. I have traced the Forfars' back to ~1690 and agree with your names going back to 1805.
I have info on the Australian Forfars from Ann Forfar, the granddaughter of George Thomas Forfar. George and May Dorathy Eustatia Palmer had 6 children, 3 of whom were born in U.K., the 4th in Oct 1923, and the others in 1926 and 1933 respectively.
I am happy to share my data if you are interested, but Ann Forfar is the expert through her 1 name study project.
                                  Best Wishes
                                          Roger Jones

Dear Roger

Thank you for your reply.

I have been collecting names and putting them into an Excel spreadsheet by families in date order (marriages then births), but it is very hard to connect families up.  I have been acquiring lots of information before visiting Scotlands People so I don't waste too many credits!

I am really interested in the Scottish, Welsh and English Forfars, and presently I am trying to find the connection with Robert Forfar (mar. Margaret Roy in 1788 in Canongate, Edinburgh) and Thomas Forfar b. 1805.  This Robert Forfar's grandson,  Patrick Thomson Forfar b. 124.5.1829 in Orwell, Kinross,  had a son called John Maitland Forfar, so I presume there must be a connection there.

I would be willling to share what I have, and would appreciate any information.

Thanks for your interest - nice to have contact with family members!
Best wishes

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
