Could it be Curragh? EG Known as Curragh Camp Co Kildare. British Army were in situ untill 1922. Irish Defense Forces now occupy the camp & married quarters.

Hello tisgrannie

The alternative spelling for Curragh is Currach.

I had a look at the extracts of Griffith's Valuation for Co. Kildare which took place in 1851 and found no Southwell so the family probably arrived in the county after the Valuation. I'm not certain if the Revision books are indexed ... they aren't online though. It would be easier if you knew the Barony, Poor Law Union, Parish and Townland prior to looking at the Revision books. www.youririsheyes.com/land_records.html

Hi tisgrannie
The Curragh has its origon in ancient history. The ancient name is "Curreach Life" or Curragh of the Liffey. See:
