Can any one help me out on 6 from the  Newhaven area that were transported.  They are-
April 1830 Frederick Jenkins aged 22 of Newhaven-Life
July 1838 George Weller aged 25 Tarring Neville- 7yrs
July 1838 John Wickens aged 55  Tarring  Neville -7yrs
July 1838 John Wickens aged 18 Tarring Nevillle -7yrs
Sept 1850John Mockford Labourer aged 38 Newhaven - 7yrs
July 1829 William Coppard aged 17 of Heighton -7yrs
All at Lewes
I'm looking for place of birth/death, crime (suspect the Tarring Nevill are all rick burning), ships etc. Thanks Pete

Jenkins frederick, 21, Labourer, Brighton, 1829, Ref No 798 - Victim was Geo Paskins
Jenkins Frederick, 22, Labourer, Newhaven, 1830, Ref No 830 - Victim was William Stone

Weller George, 25, Labourer, Tarring Neville, 1838, Ref No 854 - Victim was Robert Fuller

Wickens John, 55, Labourer, Tarring Neville, 1838, Ref No 854 - Victim was Robert Fuller
Wickens John, 18, Labourer, Tarring Neville, 1838, Ref No 854 - Victim was Robert Fuller
(John Wickens Senior & Junior both had previous convictions at the Assizes in 1812 & 1822)

Mockford John, 38, Labourer, Newhaven, 1850, Ref No 950 - Victims were S Roberts and W Waters

Coppard William, 17, Labourer, Heighton, 1829, Ref No 800 - Victim was William Younger

I dont know exactly how much information is stored under those reference numbers at the East Sussex Record Office - but there must be something there to supplement your data

With regard to transportation of convicts from Sussex, would you know if there are any records about care of convicts while they were waiting on the hulks before transportation, presumably at Portsmouth? I have read that some convicts had family who supplied food and help during this time whilst others had government supplies which they no doubt "paid"  for with  free labour while waiting for the convict ship to leave for Australia.
I found hulk records for my convict, John Coleman from Brighton, but nothing else.

Hi Chris, I have had a look in A2A ESRO for the QR series of records and some of the information you gave me  doesn't show-what were your sources?, Jenkins Frederick is not on QR 721 or 798 ( he shows on 803 which you may have as 830) and I can find no reference  to the offences  of John Wickens  1812 & 1822. I can only find Quarter Session and Petty Session Records -am I  missing something? Pete

Frederick Jenkins (Pardon) Years 1841-1842
Ship: Royal George
Date and Place Tried: April Sussex QS 1830
Sentence: Life
Nearly 12 Years in Colony, held TOL 3 years
Remarks: Having held ticket of leave required time and conduct good

The Royal George arrived Tasmania (Van Diemens Land) 18 Oct 1830, departed London 12 June 1830

Thanks Cazay, I must have missed that as I went through all the assorted lists on the Tas Gov site, Do you remember what year Wickens was? His trial was 1838.  Chris -thanks too, must be that the A2A index do not show the complete content but I can check that when I go.
