Liz,
Did your James McNerlin marry Elizabeth Anderson in 1913? If so I may be able to help.

Liz,
I believe this is the family you are looking for in the 1901 and 1911 census. See http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
They lived in Lewis Street, Duncairn ward in 1901 and in Keadyville Avenue, Duncairn ward in 1911.

Hi K...the quick answer is that I don't know.  Both my grandfather and grandmother were married twice.  I don't know the maiden or surname of his first wife.  His second wife's name was Elizabeth but she came from Scotland.  He seems to have travelled back and forth from Ireland to Scotland quite a bit and his family came from North Belfast, i.e. Lewis Street and then Keadyville Avenue.  The family eventually lived in Jellicoe Avenue which was purpose-built housing for WW1 veterans.  My great-grandfather was a boilermaker and my grandfather a plumber.  My grandfather had a lot of brothers and sisters but they either died young or emigrated. Hope this is understandable and thanks for your quick reply.

Regards...Liz H

Hi,
The 1911 census shows that Joseph McNerlin (sen) had been married for 23 years. There was a marriage of a Joseph McNerlin to Mary Laverty on 24 Nov 1887 in Billy Church of Ireland, Coleraine district. The fathers' names were Robert McNerlin and Moore Laverty.

Hi K - Joseph and Mary married in 1897 must be my grandparents.  I'll try to investigate this further.  How I wish I had asked all these questions when my grandparents were alive.  This is a lot more than I knew.  Thanks so much.

Regards...Liz H

Hi,
I think that Joseph and Mary, married in 1887 would have been your GGrandparents and going back a generation earlier I can find the Marriage of a Moore Laverty to a Catherine Jane Mullan in Derrykeighan Church of Ireland, Ballymoney on 4 Sept 1860. The fathers' names were John Laverty and William Mullan. Children of the couple were :-
15 June 1864 Margaret registered in Dervock
14 May 1866 Elizabeth
9 May 1870 Moore registered in Dervock
11 may 1872 Isabella registered in Dervock
24 Oct 1874 William john registered in Ballydivity
30 jan 1877 Catherine Jane.
Mary was possibly born before 1864 when Civil Registration of births started.

Hi, I have an idea about at least one of these faces. Was any progress made with these original queries? Many thanks!
