Hi everyone,
We have recently been undertaking historical research into the surname of Kadansky. We have traced an Albert Charles Kadansky as living and working in Hull from around 1871 until 1919. He appears to be of Eastern European origin, various census’ listing him as German or Polish or maybe even Danish. We are not sure which though which is a bit problematic for further research!
We have found that in a number of local directories of Hull in the 19th century, he is listed as an assistant missionary and caretaker of a Hebrew Mission Hall, situated at 45 Great Thornton Street, Hull. We have tried to find further references to this institution on the net and by email with Hull CC archives but have not found anything concrete.
Does anyone know what the Hebrew Mission Hall would have been – which denomination is it? Does any specific information or records relating to this Mission Hall exist and/or could anyone recommend any resources which could give us more background on the organisation Albert Kadansky worked with?
Any little snippets of information however small would be of great help with this giant jigsaw puzzle!
Thanks,
Binky and Chewy
