Thanks Audrey- This is the correct marriage and the father was James but he must have made a lot of money selling beer because he now says he's a gentleman!

Audrey,
The date for the Edward Cramsie marriage was 25 Aug 1825 vice 1925 or was that just a typo?  If you looked up 1925 date would I be pushing my luck to request you look up the 1825 date next time you are in the neighborhood?  Thanks for your efforts to date!
Bill

Hi Dave,

I've got a George Hugh Wilson married to a Sarah(?) based in Manchester, in my family history. I wonder if there is a connection. Do you know any family details at all?

Best Regards,

David Howard

Audrey,

I was wondering if you are still doing look ups? I am based in Australia, but will be visiting England in June/July. We are trying to gain as much info before getting there!

The last direct family link we know of is Charles Brown. He was married at Manchester Cathederal in 1811.

This is the look up if you could.

Marriage - Charles Brown to Ann Shelmerdine - Jan 27 1811.

Regards,
Jon.

I'm finding difficulty in accessing the cathedral records.  I can't visit in person.
Could anybody check a marriage for me?

Thomas Simpson to Catharine Carney at Manchester Cathedral.
23rd October 1838.

All available details, such as witnesses, might help establish my great, great grandmother's identity.

I am willing to pay any expenses incurred.
Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat  :D.

At the moment there is no access to the records as they are being re-located due to Central Library being closed for refurbishment.

http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/448/archives_and_local_studies/4584/temporary_closure_of_manchester_archives_and_local_studies/2

I think they will be available again from 28 June at Elliott House.

From the time to time Rootschatters do visit and will do look ups.  If there isn't anyone going soon, the Library used to do a postal service for a small charge (I think it was £2.50 and may be a bit more for overseas postage).  This service is currently suspended due to the closure but hopefully once they open again it will be resumed.

Thanks Luzzu,

Might be able to go myself as will be visiting Manchester towards the end of July.
Meantime I'll keep checking on the link you have given me.
Should hate to toddle off down there and find them still closed.
Will the archive section be moved from central library permanently?
Maybe, with the new home will come some new equipment for reading micro fiches.  Hope so.

If you do go in person, I think whilst they are at their temporary home you have to book a microfilm/fiche reader in advance.  I think they are going to be busy when they open.

I think Central Library re-opens in 2013.  That is probably when they will invest in new equipment (or let's hope so).  It should be state of the art but I hope they will refurbish sympathetically so as not to spoil the original features of the building.

Here are some of the details you wanted

Marriage Daniels and Ryan after banns

David Daniels - 21 - bachelor - collier - Church St, Newton     Heath - father John - collier

Hannah Ryan - 19 - spinster - 757 Oldham Rd, Newton Heath - father Thomas - labourer
Both marked with a cross, witnesses Henry Bruckshaw (literate) and Hannah Fox (marked a cross)
Henry and Hannah R my ancestors :)
The only info on the Newell and Moors marriage was the fact that both were able to sign their names and both were from Manchester. William was a bachelor and a ????? finisher. The word looked like rate or late but neither makes sense.
The witnesses to the marriage were John Williamson, Robert Holdgate and James Kerkwick( all literate) Unusual to have 3 witnesses but there you go.

The baptism likewise, not much info ...the entry was one line only and read
4/3/1810 Samuel son of William and Mary Newell born 31/1/1810

Turner and Shimwell marriage after banns

Solomon Turner - full age - bachelor - puddler - Roger St - father William - puddler

Hannah Shimwell - full age - spinster - 27 Roger St - father James - farmer
Both were literate, witnesses Eliza and Samuel Spruce.

Iria
Apologies I ran out of time and didn't get your details, it is at the top of my list for next week.
