Here is the info you requested
marriage at M/c Cathedral 26/8/1867 after banns.

Thomas Taylor - 20 - bachelor - collier - Collyhurst St - father William - collier

Catherine Ryan - 19 - spinster - 8 Clough St - father Thomas - excavator

Both marked with a cross.
Witnesses George Hilshowe/Mary Lomas, both signed

Pippa

Checked out the baptism for you but it revealed no more info than you gave me. The parents were listed as though they were married but whether they had to prove this or not I do not know for sure.

Usually in the Cathedral registers it was marked as illegitimate if that were the case. There were also some where the parents were not married and both surnames appeared.

If you have found a marriage later then they obviously were not married at the time of this child's birth.
If you want to apply for a birth certificate you will need to contact Manchester Register Office direct.

Hi Aud,

Thank you so much! you have just added another generation to two branches of my tree. I hope with all your hard work you have been able to gain a lot of information on your own family. it must be fascinating actually looking at the records or to have them all in the same place.
thanks again
Wendy :)

Hi Aud,

How are you? I was wondering if you could do me another favor if you get back to the Cathederal?:)

I wanted to make sure that I have the righ family of my ggrandmother Catherine Ryan so I was hoping you could look up her sister's marriage. I asure you these are my only relatives (that I know of) who did anything at the Cathederal.

The marriage is between Hannah Ryan and David Daniels it took place on :
13th June, 1870 at the Cathederal.

I also wondered if you could answer two questions for me: Could anyone get married there? my family were working class and it seems very fancy?
Does it mean that my anscestors were Church of England?

Thank you very much Aud.
Cheers
Wendy

I will look it up next week, no problem.
I think I am right in saying that anyone could get married there and there were a lot of working class did do, mine amongst them.
I did hear that it being the parish church was entitled to fees from the parties marrying at any other church so they would have had to pay twice which occassioned most people choosing the Cathedral.
How true this is I am not sure, maybe someone can confirm or deny this?

It was C of E but marriages took place there of mixed denomination too. One of the parties could have been RC and unable to marry in a catholic church as the other wasn't.

Hi Audrey,
Are you still doing Manchester Cathedral lookups ?  I would be so grateful if you could give me any background info on this IGI I found on LDS site.  William Newell marriage to Mary Moors 14th June 1792 Manchester cathedral.  Especially grooms father's name. My Newell, Newall, Newel, Newhall variants married and had their children baptised in the Cathedral for several generations and lived in the Deansgate area.

Do you look at baptisms as well? I have an IGI for Samuel Newell christened 04 Mar 1810 Parents William Newell and Mary.  The only problem is that there are two William Newell/all marriage IGI's at Manchester Cathedral the other is William Newall to Mary Hill 22 Aug 1804.  I am presuming the Newell/Moors marriage is mine, but would love to be sure.

Even if you can't help, I'd like to say how much your kindness is appreciated
